Meeting with an Advisor

Your academic advisor is the best place to start making the most of your experience at the UK College of Education. You must schedule an advising appointment each semester in preparation for priority registration. Besides helping you prepare for priority registration, our faculty and professional staff advisors are happy to meet with you to answer questions and help map out the pathway to your chosen field.

To schedule an advising appointment, please follow the instructions below:

  • Go to myUK and go to Degree Planning & Registration (myUKGPS).
  • Look for your advisor to the right under “My Advisors”.
  • Select the blue “Make Appointment” button.
  • A pop up will appear showing the days and times available for advising appointments.
  • Click on the date and time that works best for you.
  • Advisors are able to set different modality options. You may see an option for in-person appointments, online (Zoom) or phone. Please communicate with your advisor regarding the best modality for you.
  • Once you confirm an appointment, you will receive an email confirmation.
  • You can view details of your appointment (including the Zoom link information) on the homepage of myUKGPS.
    • If you selected Zoom, a start appointment button will appear 7 minutes prior to your meeting time on the homepage of myUKGPS.

If you have any problems scheduling an appointment, please contact your assigned academic advisor via email for assistance. Be specific and take note of any error messages. This will help to identify any scheduling issues.

If you are a prospective student and want to learn more about a particular College of Education major at the University of Kentucky, please contact the advisor based on your last name and major of interest according to the breakdown listed in Question #1 of the FAQs below.

FAQs

1. Who is my advisor?

Your academic advisor is assigned to you based on your major. You can find your advisor on the upper right hand side of the screen of the homepage in your myUKGPS. If you do not have an assigned advisor, please contact collegeofed@uky.edu.

2. Where is my academic advisor located?
The Office of Student Success and Academic Advisors are located in Taylor Education Building room 151.

3. When should I meet with an advisor?
Students are required to meet with their advisor in preparation for Priority Registration. However, students with academic concerns and procedural questions are welcome to request an advisor meeting. Students on academic probation may be required to meet with their advisor additional times during the semester.

4. What is an advisor hold?
The Registrar’s Office places registration “holds” on all student records each semester. Students must meet with their advisor each semester prior to registration so that the student’s program can be discussed and course recommendations can be made. These appointments generally occur in March/April (for summer and fall registration) and October/November (for spring registration). Once the advising meeting is held, the electronic hold is lifted and the student may register during their scheduling “window.”
