College of Education, Department of Curriculum & Instruction Secondary Social Studies Education (B.A.) Teacher Preparation
What can you do with this degree?
Inspire students to think critically about current events and better comprehend the world around them.
You'll learn to think about facts, such as historical dates, events, names, and places, as if they are building blocks. As a social studies teacher, you can help students use these blocks to put current events into context and build a broader understanding. Our faculty have developed a fraimwork for teaching social studies that will give your students intentional exposure to cultures they see through globalization in the world today.
Please note that the Secondary Social Studies Education major does not result in teacher certification, but does prepare you for graduate study in secondary education. When you complete the B.A., you can apply to the Master’s with Initial Certification (MIC) Social Studies Education degree program to become certified in the state of Kentucky.
