Sustainability Director

Teddy Lhoutellier is the current Sustainability Director for the University of Miami. Renewable Energy, Sustainability and Environmental Science are his passion. He started at the U in 2014, implementing the University's first comprehensive Sustainability Action Plan, after receiving a Silver ranking through the Sustainabiilty Tracking and Assessment Rating System program. Today, the University of Miami is a STARS Gold University. The office of sustainability's team he manages help initiate, monitor, track, promote, and advertise sustainability initiatives across divisions, schools and campuses. Green U, as the office is commonly known, is spreading sustainable development values everyday among UM community members.

Teddy graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University, holding a MS degree in Environmental Studies - Energy Policy. He also holds a LEED Green Associate and a Project Management Professional certificate. He worked for four years as an Environmental Science and Environmental Policy Instructor at Florida International University, and was the Outreach Coordinator for a Miami based Solar Panel Distributor. He's an active member of various environmental organizations in Miami Dade.

"Our main challenge as a local community is to adapt to the impacts of Climate Change. But we should also tackle the roots of the problem and try to become Carbon neutral as fast as we can. When we think about what needs to be done to stop the trend in Human induced Global Warming, we can adopt various attitudes, we can either keep on living our life, business as usual, hoping that "they" will fix the problem, OR we can start acting now, either by being a more active citizen, or by being a more conscious consumer. We have the power to change things. Join us to make a difference right here at UM for a better, greener campus !"

Sustainability Coordinator

Dharma Proctor is the current Sustainability Coordinator for the University of Miami serving under Sustainability Director Teddy L’Houtellier. Dharma’s journey at the University of Miami began as an undergraduate, where she earned a B.A. in Ecosystem Science and Policy with minors in Sustainable Business and Communications. Graduating Magna Cum Laude, she went on to complete her Master of Science in Sustainable Business at the Miami Herbert Business School, becoming a proud Double ‘Cane. As Sustainability Coordinator, Dharma is committed to driving impactful sustainability efforts, enhancing current initiatives, and introducing innovative solutions to make her cherished alma mater an even greener and more sustainable community.

INTERNS

Sustainability Program Intern
	Zachary Hopkins is a sophomore from Indiana currently studying Marine Affairs with a minor in Ecosystem Science and Policy. He aspires to be an environmental lawyer and works as a regional inventory manager at Volkswagen. As a sustainability programs intern at GreenU, he works to advocate and increase engagement for various sustainability activities across campus, orchestrate said events, and ensure the University of Miami campus and buildings aim for the highest sustainability certifications. Also involved in ECO Agency and Presidents 100, Zachary has plenty of practice brainstorming, implementing, and showing off ways that UMiami can outperform colleges when it comes to being as pro-environment as possible and setting the path for others to follow so that collectively, everyone can be more sustainable.
Communication Coordinator
	Alexa Smith "I am a junior from Maryland, pursuing a B.A. in both Ecosystem Science and Policy and Advertising Management. As the Communications Coordinator for the UM Office of Sustainability, I am passionate about science communications and climate education; I believe providing people with relevant information and actionable steps is integral to progressing toward a sustainable future. I am the Vice President of the ESG Honor Society, and an intern for EARTHDAY.ORG, with previous experience in sustainability-focused branding for small NGOs. I am happy to be contributing to a better and more sustainable U!"
Garden and Conservation Intern
	I'm Francesco Piedra, a freshman student here at UM majoring in environmental engineering and a member of the sustainability garden club. I’m from Texas and have a passion for nature, finding everything fascinating—from the different ingredients to the beautiful plants. I aspire to be someone who can take from the environment without harming it and give back to it. I believe that teaching people about the importance of the environment is fundamental, and I wish to spread that knowledge.” I’ll send you a picture once I take one I barely have any pictures of myself l i might have it later on today latest tomorrow.
Green Athletics Liaison
	Adrianna Serna is a senior that is majoring in Sports Administration with a minor in Sociology. She plays on the Women's Soccer team and displays constant leadership through being a captain. Since a young age she's always had the love and compassion for our oceans and animals. Therefore she is looking to enhance people's awareness of plastics and try to find alternative uses.
	2023-24 - Mason Napper is a senior that is majoring in Sports Administration with a minor in Exercise Physiology. He plays football and His position is long snapper. He is the Green Athletic Liaison currently and is very passionate about keeping our beaches and oceans clean. His goal is to educate and inspire people to stop using single-use plastics.
