Originally applied in the teaching of mathematics in Japan, now it turns to be used in other fields, and English is one of them. This paper highlights the guideline on Lesson Study and pictures its application in a private senior high school in Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The adaptation of Lesson Study is interesting since Japan and Indonesia have different cultural background. How Lesson Study is usually implemented in Japan and the US and how it is applied in Indonesia will be seen here. As this is a case study, it will only focus on a school and the result should not be used to generalize Lesson Study applications in Indonesia. Interview and observation were instruments used in this study. The interview was used to gain information on how Lesson Study was normally conducted and observat...

The reforms are motivated by a 21st century vision of higher education that is shared globally. The reforms and their underlying vision were also adopted by the Indonesian government and, somewhat broadly, by Indonesian universities. The integration of research and inquiry into undergraduate teaching is central to that vision. The study investigates the challenges of the new higher education reforms on the teaching and planning of English language teacher education (ELTE) undergraduate programs. In order to identify these challenges, the study adopted qualitative research methods as best suited for obtaining as many perspectives as possible from ELTE academics on the issue and to examine the concepts and methods that they apply when redesigning their teaching, as well as their own views on the subject matter. Diverse methods for data collection and data analysis ...

Islam world also needs to follow this by equipping its people with English as a communication tool. As Arabic is used for the communication inside Islam, English is needed to communicate Islam to other people around the earth both to Muslims or Non-Muslims. Teaching English has become an increasingly significant element in Islamic education. For this, the issue of teaching English at madrasah is an important concern for practitioners in the area of TEFL in Islamic institutions. This paper explores the writer's ten-year experience in teaching English at a madrasah ibtidaiyyah in Cirebon, West Java-Indonesia. The conditions that will be pictured are the culture, the students, the teaching and learning process, and the outcome of the current practices in madrasah ibtidaiyyah, mainly in the area of TEFL. Then, all these conditions will be contrasted to up to date research findings and theories so that the facts and the challenges can be clearly seen. This will also be seen from the perspective of current curriculum in Indonesia, namely curriculum 2013, which bears contradictions with the presence of it. In fact, the curriculum 2013 eliminates English as a subject learned at primary school level. What madrasah ibtidaiyyah will do in the next years can direct the expected outcome of the teaching of English at this level. Kinds of program that can be designed to empower the state of English mastery are an essential case to discuss. This all facts and challenges can provide insights so that people working in and with madrasah ibtidaiyyah understand and are ready to face the global communication era.

For many times, government (as the leader of schools) and campus (as teacher producer) do not sit together to discuss this problem. This results to gaps between school and campus. I am interested in seeing this problem by viewing gaps occur in the process of campus preparing qualified English teachers. This paper will tell the result of my interviews with pre-service teachers about their experiences at teaching practicum program.

It also happens at the case of muslim students, in which Islam teaches the students to be honest and not to steal from others. For understanding why it happens, this exploration is conducted. The students of English Department of IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon have to write many of their assignments in English. The result of my observations, the quality of the students’ writing is not good enough. One of the cases found is the copy-paste works, or plagiarism. Using interviews instrument, I try to figure out why students of English Department of IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon. There are at least three reasons behind why students act plagiarism; ignorance on the quotation and citation rules, poor writing skills, and the need of instant writing result. This paper tries to explore these reasons.

The key difference in the design between the present study and conventional research design is in that it did not begin with a question about its form, quantitative and qualitative. Furthermore, in Education, research design is largely limited to surveys and a testing of simple hypotheses. Unlike these traditional approaches, the present study engaged ELTE academics directly in the process of collaborative reflection on the meaning of the new higher education policies from the perspective of their own contexts. Key issue in designing the study was to conceptualise a perspective that will help inform this process of engagement, academics' reflections and further learning. Complex analyses were conducted to reach this point. Again, this was a very different process than simply listing "previous research". The presentation will briefly illustrate the background thinking behind the study design, the design and the impacts that the chosen design has helped to achieve.
