This paper addresses the state of research by putting forward initial insights into the monetary circulation of the Greater Armenian Kingdomthrough the analysis of hoards dated from the 1st century BCE to 428 CE. Located at the limits of the Roman Empire and on the edges of the Parthian Empire, the Greater Armenian Kingdom is an important case study because of its geographical location and geopolitical landscape. The paper investigates the impact of the fall of the Armenian Artašesian Royal Dynasty around the beginning of the Christian Era on the monetary circulation and more specifically how the lack of Armenian issues affected the use of other coinages within the Kingdom. These data are the results of the ongoing Marie Curie Project ROCCAA held at the Ashmolean Museum of Oxford University.

After the fall of the Armenian Artašesian dynasty around the beginning of the Christian Era, the Romans fought with the Parthians and Sasanids over the control the Greater Kingdom of Armenia. These major geopolitical changes affected the production and circulation of coinage within the Armenian Kingdom. This paper gives our first insight into the results of the ROCCAA project, which aims to analyse the circulation of Roman coinage within the Armenian territory. The project is the first step in understanding the monetary circulation of various coinages in the Caucasus region during Antiquity.
The paper will focus first on the hoards from Armenia and question the data and whether they are representative. Secondly, the dataset will be considered in the context of the broader region, in order to outline the unique patterns of hoards from Armenia. Finally, to counterbalance hoard evidence, single finds will be analysed in a third part.

Nestled in lush greenery and an area of outstanding geological interest, the archaeological site of Gaṙni has aroused enthusiasm from travellers over the centuries. By analysing travel literature, this paper shines new light on how travellers’ writings can improve our knowledge of Gaṙni. This study is divided into three parts. The first part focuses on archaeological data and the preservation of Gaṙni throughout the centuries. The second part examines the sources used by the travellers to draw up their narrative. The last part deals with their methodology and their approach while contextualising the rise of Archaeology as a scientific field.
