The objective of the present study was to survey the physical and mental health of university workers. The study is classified as descriptive, quantitative and transversal, with a sample of 1011 university workers. Descriptive and inferential analyses were used, as well as cluster analysis using the Ward method. As a result, there is a high prevalence of physical and mental illness in the investigated sample, especially anxiety and depression. Of the workers, 45.3% reported some type of physical or psychological symptom. This question demonstrates a high incidence of illness in this population, mainly anxiety and depression. There is also a high prevalence of physical diseases in the sample investigated, especially in women. Five groups of public servants were found who presented different profiles in relation to illness at work, emphasizing the need for public policies in favor of workers’ health. It is concluded that programs to promote physical and mental health are necessary in the universities, in addition to the need for the active participation of organizational psychologists in those institutions.

METHODS Participants were first-time treatment seeking adult smokers (N=90) on a waiting list for a government-sponsored cessation program. Pearson's bivariate correlations assessed relationships between the primary outcome variable (dispositional mindfulness) and each explanatory variable (nicotine dependence, depression, anxiety, and state positive/negative affect). Linear regression analyses evaluated the unique contribution of each explanatory variable when controlling for the others. RESULTS The sample (N=90) was predominantly female (n=71) and most (79%) had 11 or fewer years of education. In the final regression model, a total of 36.2% of the variance in dispositional mindfulness was accounted for by positive affect (B=0.81, p<0.001), negative affect (B=-0.44, p=0.02), and level of nicotine dependence (B=1.48, p=0.007). CONCLUSIONS Positive and negative affect, as well as nicotine dependence, account for a significant and sizable amount of the variance in dispositional mindfulness. Future mindfulness interventions for smoking cessation should be designed to address individual differences in affect, as well as nicotine dependence, in order to better tailor treatment to address baseline differences in mindfulness.

This work aims to assess the effects of brief intervention (BI) on alcohol-related issues use in the university workplace environment. The method consisted of a controlled, randomized clinical trial with an experimental
design, quantitative. Initially, 1011 workers answered the instruments, 143 individuals who were classified as risk users participated in the final sample of the randomized clinical trial. Individuals were randomized to receive feedback and brochures (feedback, n = 68) or feedback, brochures, and BI (BI, n = 75). The results show that, in the intragroup analysis, there
was a difference in all measures for the reduction of alcohol consumption at 3 months. In addition, the IB group has a greater tendency to reduce alcohol use in most of the questions analyzed, although the “feedback” group also presented results regarding a reduction in alcohol consumption in the short-term. Performing a BI in the university workplace
environment showed to be effective and its results are comparable to previously studied contexts. Registered on the Registro Brasileiro de Ensaios Clínicos (REBEC) (# RBR-2fvdg2), date 14/06/2016.

Post-treatment relapse is a major roadblock to stemming the global epidemic of tobacco-related illness. This article presents results from a pilot trial evaluating the feasibility and initial efficacy of Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) as an adjunct to standard relapse prevention treatment (ST) for smoking cessation. Methods. Smokers (n = 86) in the maintenance phase of treatment were randomized to receive either ST plus MBRP (MBRP) (n = 44) or ST alone (ST) (n = 42). Data were collected at baseline and at four, twelve and twenty-four week follow up points. We evaluated the feasibility of the protocol with frequency analysis, and the efficacy with both intention to treat (ITT) and complete case (CC) analyses of the effects of MBRP on abstinence. Secondary outcomes included mindfulness, craving, depression, anxiety and positive/negative affect. Results. High adherence suggested MBRP is acceptable and feasible. Participants in the MBRP group reported increases in mindfulness (M =-7.833, p = 0.016), and reductions in craving (M = 17.583, p = 0.01) compared to the ST group. ITT analysis found that, compared to MBRP (36.4%), ST (57.1%) showed trend-level superiority in abstinence at Week 4 (PR = 0.63, p = 0.06); however at week 24, the ST group (14.3%) demonstrated a 2-fold greater decrease in abstinence, compared to the MBRP group (20.1%) (PR = 2.25, p = 0.08). Therefore, the MBRP group maintained a higher abstinence rate for longer. Reported effects were greater in the CC analysis. Conclusions. MBRP holds promise for preventing relapse after aided tobacco quit attempts.

The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected the mental health and alcohol consu... more The coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has affected the mental health and alcohol consumption of individuals. Videoconferencing psychotherapy has become a fundamental mode of treatment for people with alcohol use disorders. However, there are still doubts about its effectiveness and the therapeutic relationship. The working alliance is considered a foundation of effective practice in cognitive behavioral
therapy (CBT). Observer measurements of the working alliance have demonstrated reliability and meaningful associations with the reduction of symptoms. However, translations of instruments to evaluate the working alliance and examine its construct have not previously been conducted for online psychotherapy for alcohol addiction. This study aimed for the cross-cultural adaptation of the Working Alliance Inventory-Short Form-Observer (WAI-SR-O) for Brazil and the evaluation of its reliability and evidence of its validity in videoconferencing psychotherapy for alcoholism. The WAI-SR-O was applied by pairs of observers for the evaluation of the working alliance in 19 recorded sessions of videoconferencing psychotherapy of 10 clients with a diagnosis of alcohol addiction. The sessions were also evaluated by the therapist (WAI-T) and client (WAI-C). The WAI-SR-O shows a moderate inter-rater intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC = 0.67) for the general scale, higher ICC for the goals and bond subscales, and a moderate value for the task subscale. The internal consistency was good (a = 0.86). The results show low but significant correlations among the goals and bond subscales of the WAI-SR-O
and the general, goals, and bond scales of the WAI-T. No correlations were found with the WAI-C. As the literature points out, the client, therapist, and observer versions of the WAI evaluated the alliance differently, requiring further study. The WAI-SR-O proved to be a reliable and valid measurement for the evaluation of the working alliance in videoconferencing psychotherapy for alcohol addiction, becoming an important tool for
the study of the working alliance in telepsychotherapy.

Despite the high number of users in Brazil, there are gaps in the offering of specialized treatment for drug users. Web-based or computer-assisted interventions can facilitate access to interventions, but no research about this resource and its use with this specific population could be found in Brazil. To analyze, through an exploratory study, five randomized controlled clinical trials and two pilot trials for computer-delivered therapeutic interventions for illicit substance users. We included papers published between January 2014 and October2014 and were available on the PubMed, PsychInfo, Scielo and Lilacs databases. The computer-delivered interventions were directed towards adult cannabis, cocaine, opioids and benzodiazepine users that were undergoing treatment in a clinic or through the internet. Some interventions had a mediator or were self-guided, and most were brief interventions, based on cognitive behavioral therapy. The results indicate that this method of treatment is a promising alternative or complement to existing interventions for illicit drug users. Some of the observed indicators were a reduction of drug consumption compared to the control group, positive ratings of the computer-delivered sessions and positive therapeutic alliance scores.

It is known that the therapeutic alliance is a key component to implement the psychotherapeutic practice; however, there is no consensus about psychotherapeutic practice and training in psychotherapy by videoconference. Therefore, this article aims to conduct a review of literature about training and the role of therapeutic alliance in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) by videoconference. For this, a search in four databases (Pubmed, Psycarticles, Lilacs and SciELO) was performed, with specific descriptors of the dictionaries of the bases. In total, 365 articles were found, but only 9 met the inclusion criteria based on the objective of this study. It was observed that most of the articles indicated that the alliance was high during the CBT sessions by videoconference and this can be compa...
