Therefore, exploring the use of services through a non-traditional student placement was a crucial first step in understanding how to develop capacity for such services. It was also important to develop an understanding of the ways in which the implementation of this student placement influenced learning in the context of a Malaysian CBR programme.

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are known by various names in different countries; in Malaysi... more Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are known by various names in different countries; in Malaysia, the term speech-language pathologist is used. There are currently two local undergraduate programs graduating SLPs. An estimated half of the local graduates serve in general and university hospitals throughout the country. The remaining half typically work in traditional institution-based speechlanguage pathology settings in the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and in neighbouring countries, mainly in Singapore. A small portion of the present workforce is also made up of graduates from overseas institutions. In 2009, the Department of Audiology and Speech Sciences, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia estimated a ratio of one SLP per 150,000 people in Malaysia. This fi gure suggests the need for innovations in service delivery beyond traditional models; that is, models typically used in high-income countries.

Sebanyak 29 item daripada ujian asal dikekalkan, kerana didapati sahih dari segi budaya dan bahasa populasi Melayu di Malaysia. Sebanyak 41 item baru disertakan agar sejumlah 70 item digunakan dalam ujian rintis. Pada awalnya, item ujian disemak oleh sekumpulan panel pakar, dan selepas itu, ujian dilakukan ke atas 40 orang Melayu dewasa normal. Berdasarkan analisis item daripada kajian rintis tersebut, M-BNT versi terakhir dibentuk dan terdiri daripada ujian sejumlah Jurnal Sains Kesihatan Malaysia 5 (1) 2007: 27-36 28 50 item. Ujian ini kemudian dilakukan ke atas 230 subjek Melayu normal dalam lima kumpulan umur (20 -29 tahun, 30 -39 tahun, 40 -49 tahun, 50 -59 tahun, dan 60 -69 tahun), yang dibahagi kepada dua tahap pendidikan (iaitu < 12 tahun pendidikan, dan 12 tahun atau lebih) dan jantina berbeza.
