Durante los anos ochenta, muchas intersecciones de las carreteras de acceso se han convertido en ... more Durante los anos ochenta, muchas intersecciones de las carreteras de acceso se han convertido en glorietas. El objetivo principal era aumentar la seguridad del trafico y reducir la velocidad global en las carreteras de acceso. En 1987, C.R.O.W. llevo a cabo un estudio para evaluar la experiencia de las glorietas en el caso del trafico mixto (coches, autobuses, camiones y bicicletas). Un analisis de diez localizaciones donde los cruces se habian convertido en glorietas mostro que el numero de accidentes con danos personales ha disminuido entre un 75 y un 90 por ciento. Las nuevas glorietas resultaron ser tambien favorables en lo que se refiere a su capacidad. En algunos casos, al volumen medio de trafico diario superaba los 20.000 vehiculos a motor. Esto significa que las glorietas pueden ser una buena alternativa a los cruces con senales. El informe sobre el estudio, publicado en 1989, incluye: un resumen de los hallazgos realizados, metodos para calcular la capacidad, analisis de la seguridad del trafico en diferentes tipos de glorietas, recomendaciones para la aplicacion de estas y estandares de diseno Sobre la base de la experiencia con las glorietas en los ultimos cinco anos, C.R.O.W. ha puesto en marcha un estudio de evaluacion de las glorietas en Holanda. El trabajo presentara los resultados mas recientesde la experiencia holandesa respecto al uso de glorietas en las carreteras urbanas de acceso.
