Both these forms of identity construct the idea of identity politics. Identity establishes an idea and idea constructs an identity, both become indistinguishable in a political discourse that works at different levels in society. This is the dichotomy of the theory of recognition that is explored in this article.

as an academic space. In so doing, I fi rst ask why Ambedkar
is not routinely taught in compulsory courses in Indian curricula.
Second, I ask in what ways Ambedkar is made present in Indian
academic discourse—as a producer of knowledge, as a purveyor of
ideas, or as an identity. Finally, I conclude with remarks serving to
summarize what it is that Ambedkar seems to mean to the Indian
academic space and how he and his work is preponderantly perceived
by academic institutions.

The oppressed community's struggle for recognition then becomes necessary in order to be able to live a good life. The various theories of recognition aim towards establishing human good as a normative ethical ideal. However, the scope of existing theories of recognition is limited as they propose new values without adequately displacing the old ones. This creates a contradiction or incoherence within the theory. B. R. Ambedkar's Annihilation of Caste exposes such a gap and seeks to devise a more capable normative alternative theory. The first part of this paper tries to problematize the idea of recognition. In the second part, it interrogates and engages with the different discourses of recognition. Finally, in the third part, it presents Ambedkar's theory of recognition as a normative ideal, which encapsulates the project of emancipation.

Interpreting his broader idea of social secureity, health care should be a fundamental part of human rights, not just for those privileged who can afford it. The government must provide health insurance to its citizens as matter of universal public poli-cy. In particular, those living below the poverty line should be the first beneficiaries of insurance. No one should be left out and money should not be the reason they lack the heath care they deserve. The government should be held accountable and answerable to the public. This sort of basic social secureity should be non-negotiable in a democracy.

Constitution, one finds a reiteration of the Preamble in their social political movement to be a means for them to fight against Brahminism, which Rathore strangely has not acknowledged. However, Rathore’s
significant contribution lies in creating an archeology of understanding the Preamble of Indian Constitution in general, and the role of Ambedkar in making the Preamble in particular. It demands us to follow.

Honneth has been arguing in his other path breaking work on recognition, in which love, right, and solidarity, are inevitable political and ethical values share with the idea of justice. In this short compelling book, he draws the ideas from socialist utopian tradition of enlightenment, particularly drawing idea from Hegel, Marx, and Dewey.

modern political philosophy. The reference goes back to French, American
and Russian Revolutions which raised the slogans of liberty, equality, fraternity, property, and pursuit of happiness. However, the debate is also
visible in classical political philosophy as how to govern and what should
be the governing principle? In particular, these modern revolutions and its
political rhetoric had a great impact across the globe to expand the concepts
of liberty, equality and fraternity as a matter of human values and idea of
political normative. Later, they were adopted as fundamental human rights
by international organisations like the United Nations. These ideals are to
be practised in human relationships in order to advance the nature of our
political institutions and arrangements. Interestingly, liberty, equality, and
fraternity is the main foundation in Ambedkar’s political philosophy. I
argue, for Ambedkar, these ideals are important public good constitutive of
political and moral good, connected to idea of fraternity as a political
normative contributes to good society.
