Bicol police honors ‘SAF 44’ sacrifices, heroism
LEGAZPI CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol) yesterday commemorated the bravery of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) personnel who were killed during an anti-terrorist operation in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in 2015.
The commemoration began with a Holy Mass at the Sto. Niño Chapel inside Camp Simeon Ola to honor their courage and ultimate sacrifice.
The flag was lowered to half-staff at the PRO-5 Parade Ground, where personnel from the regional headquarters attended the ceremony.
PRO-5 Director Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon was represented by Deputy Regional Director for Operations (DRDO) Col. Roque Bausa, who expressed respect for the courage and heroism of the SAF 44.
Bausa said the police officers made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure that the public could live in a society protected by their bravery.
He also urged everyone to remember and honor the sacrifices of all uniformed personnel who have dedicated their lives to serving the nation.
“As we reflect on the heroism of the SAF 44, let us also take a moment to remember our other brothers and sisters in service who have made the supreme sacrifice while fulfilling their roles as protectors of peace and order,” Bausa said.
“Their valor and dedication to duty form the very foundation of the trust and respect that the public has in our institution,” he added.
The mission, codenamed “Oplan Exodus,” successfully neutralized Zulkifli Bin Hir, also known as “Marwan,” a Malaysian bomb maker and leader of the terrorist group Jemaah Islamiyah. Philippine News Agency
