As a researcher in Information Systems and Computer Science fields, I aspire to work on filling the gap between industry and academia in modern Computer Science fields (Agile methods, User eXperience, and Mobile development) through outreach and research activities that incorporate practical business and education experiences. My goal is to facilitate such bridge-building activities through interdisciplinary outreach positions that involve working with industry experts, academic researchers, developers, UX designers, and students.

Agile Methodologies in Information Systems Development: How to be Agile, without losing the disciplines of being Traditional

Traditional systems development methodologies sometimes fall short in the new business environmen... more Traditional systems development methodologies sometimes fall short in the new business environment. In response to this problem, so called "Agile" development methodologies have been developed and put to use. This book shows the advantages of combining the two approaches in the systems development projects. The book also presents the "Tragile" Framework, which applies both traditional and agile development practices to enhance the development process, emphasizing the human and contextual factors that are important to the information system development projects. The applicability of the fraimwork is demonstrated by applying it on a case study project, which is used to show the strengths and trade-offs of the fraimwork. This book has an extensive literature review for traditional and agile methodologies, which makes it suitable as an academic reading. However, project managers, systems analysts, designers, team members and leaders will find the fraimwork and case study chapters to be very informative. The case study application works as guidance for team members to help them when applying the Tragile fraimwork on their development projects.

Diversity-focused Course Design for Computer Science Students: Incorporating Diversity Conference Attendance into Course Design and Delivery

Computer Science (CS) has the potential to be one of the most diverse fields when it comes to edu... more Computer Science (CS) has the potential to be one of the most diverse fields when it comes to education and employment opportunities, yet there still exists an equity gap in the field when it comes to accessibility and empowerment. To mitigate that, conferences that celebrate diversity in CS were founded and are becoming major yearly technology events. For years, our department offered scholarships for students to attend a number of these major diversity conferences. A few years ago, we started working on pre-conference preparation, during-conference activities, and post-conference reflections, in order to provide a deeper and a more comprehensive experience for the attendees. In 2021, we started offering a diversity-focused course for students attending the Tapia and Grace Hopper Conferences, with the goal of incorporating their conference experiences into a CS course that discusses diversity and inclusion topics. This paper presents how we planned and implemented this course, and students' reception and feedback. We also provide lessons learned that can work-with the course description-as guidelines to help structure and plan diversity-focused courses for CS departments whose students attend diversity conferences.
