What is a Licensed Practical Nurse?

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is an important part of any healthcare team.  Many LPNs work in conjunction with an RN on patient care plans or they work independently providing essential care to sick or injured patients. LPNs provide support to RNs and Doctors to ensure records are kept up-to-date, the communication between doctor and patient are clear and consistent, and educate the patients and their families to understand procedures and how to care for sick relatives.

What does a Licensed Practical Nurse do?

The accelerated Practical Nursing school at MedQuest College provides our graduates with a diploma in Practical Nursing and the knowledge needed to take the National Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) to become officially licensed. Licensed Practical Nurses have a variety of responsibilities from administrative tasks to patient care, including:

  • Maintain records of patients’ history
  • Provide routine patient care
  • Observe and document the patient’s health such as vital signs and overall condition
  • Assisting doctors and registered nurses with tests or procedures
  • Assemble, use and sterilize medical equipment
  • Start IV drips or give injections
  • Consulting with registered nurses on patient care plans
  • Communicating with patients and their families

Where does a Licensed Practical Nurse work?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of LPNs is projected to grow by 12% from 2016-2026, faster than the average for all other occupations. This tremendous growth is due to the aging baby-boom population that requires medical attention as they live longer and experience more chronic health problems. As a professionally trained and educated graduate of MedQuest College’s Practical Nursing school, you can explore career opportunities at any of the following healthcare facilities:

  • Hospitals
  • Pharmacies
  • Clinics
  • Long Term Care Facilities
  • Correctional Facilities
  • Public School Systems
  • Physician’s Office
  • Nursing Facilities

I would recommend MedQuest to everyone I know

I leave every day having learned something new. Every day we do something hands-on and the teachers are wonderful. Our small class sizes help to grasp the concepts better. The available technology and resources really help you to understand the dental office better. I have absolutely no complaints about this school.   – Crystal N.

MedQuest has everything you need to learn.

I love the school. I would recommend to everyone that likes small classes and really good teachers. I have learned a lot, and by the end of my classes, I will be prepared for a good job at a dental office. It is all because I was well-prepared by the instructors.
