Chairman, Randolph County Board of Commissioners
On December 3, 1818, by Resolution of Congress and signed by James Monroe, then president of the United States, the territory of present-day Illinois was established as a sovereign State of the United States, with the Village of Kaskaskia located in Randolph County as its first Capital. Since that time over 200 years ago, Randolph County has enjoyed a rich and diverse history.
Each year, thousands of visitors from all over the United States explore our many historical sites, and attend events as the Rendezvous at Prairie du Rocher’s Fort de Chartres and Grand American Trapshooting at the World Shooting and Recreation Complex in Sparta. Randolph County boasts incredible fishing, camping, hunting and birding. The southern genesis of the Kaskaskia Trail is available for viewing as are many other French historical sites along the way.
The communities of Randolph County are individually unique, each providing a small-town living experience with community services and economic opportunities that abound for all. The confluence of the Kaskaskia and Mississippi rivers provide for three commercial port districts, and a substantial portion of the County provides an Enterprise Zone to foster economic and commercial development. I hope you enjoy your stay in Randolph County and you find it as enjoyable as I do.
