10:30 a.m. update:
It’s crystal-clear up on the Big right now! We have some great views of the park and valley.
Groomers are skiing great, as expected, on both sides from top to bottom! Off-piste still has some great bump skiing. We expect the micro-burst to hit around midday.
Just a reminder that we do have some terrain closures today, so please aware of roped-off areas. Ducking ropes and skiing closed areas can lead to pass confiscation.
6 a.m. report:
Good morning, snow sports fans!
We had no new snow last night which brings our settled base depth at the summit to 69 inches. It’s currently 17 degrees on the mountain, with a projected summit temp of 21, while the base area should get up to 26 degrees today. We will have moderate winds out of the south-southwest under stormy skies. It looks like we have a micro-burst headed our way as we are expected to see an inch or two fall by tomorrow morning.
Groomers skied great yesterday and should again today with some silky corduroy being laid down by the grooming team. Off-trail terrain is providing some solid bump skiing right now and should be even better tomorrow with a fresh dusting of snow.
Night skiing will be back in action from 4-8:30 p.m. tonight and tomorrow. Please keep in mind we will be running T-Bar 1 and Chairs 3 and 6 for night skiing until Chair 2 is up and running in the near future. Please see our updated blog post on Chair 2 here. Mully’s Moguls will be closed today for load testing.
Ed & Mully’s will be open for breakfast from 8:15-10:30 a.m. tomorrow and Sunday! Don’t forget to fuel up on some delicious grub before hitting the slopes this weekend.
We also have some awesome events coming up that still have a few spots open! The January Jam Freestyle Contest on Saturday, Jan. 18, is a youth-focused terrain park event that prioritizes progression and camaraderie to introduce young rippers to the benefits of freestyle skiing and riding.
Also on the 18th, we'll be holding our Lady Power Park Hour, a noncompetitive, introductory-level slopestyle event here at Whitefish Mountain Resort. This will be open to all skill levels, from first-timers to those with years of experience. Our goal is to build confidence and community for ladies in the terrain park.
We also have spots open in our Wednesday Night Skimo League, which takes place three times in January! Be sure to check out these and other awesome events here.
Speaking of events, this weekend we will be hosting our first IFSA Junior Freeride Competition. We will have terrain closures on the East Rim and Haskill Slide for the event, so please be mindful of marked closures. Skiing closed areas will result in getting your pass clipped.
Lastly, we want to remind everyone to keep an eye out for tree wells as our snowpack continues to grow. Keep a wide berth around trees, keep your partner in sight and consider carrying a whistle.
It’s shaping up to be another stellar weekend on the Big and we hope to see you out there.
As always,
Happy shredding.
The snow report is a subjective assessment of terrain and weather conditions. Snowfall and snow depths are measured at the summit and base areas around 6 a.m. each day. Actual depths may vary across the mountain and change throughout the day. Always check with ski patrol if you need more information about skiing conditions.

If you go out of bounds ...
When you exit the marked boundaries of the resort, you are entering backcountry terrain where natural and human-caused avalanches can occur. The resort does not conduct avalanche mitigation on those slopes. Always check the Flathead Avalanche Center's daily avalanche forecast and carry a beacon, shovel and probe.
Stay safe out there!
Did you know tree wells can be deadly? How do you ski or ride safely in early-season conditions? Have you read the Skier Responsibility Code?
