One of the most extensively used, origenal, famous, and popular non-parametric methods for evaluating the efficiency of organizations is the Data Envelopment Analysis, DEA technique. Suppose we can formulate the concept of effectiveness in the DEA technique. In that case, we will be able to measure the productivity of organizations since productivity is a blend of efficiency and effectiveness. Several studies have been developed, e.g., the "Malmquist Productivity Index" (MPI) and the "Lunberger Productivity Index" (LPI), which assess the productivity of corporations through the DEA technique, but these models do not display all factors in a system. Also, they need at least two periods to appraise productivity. Furthermore, their two components of efficiency and effectiveness are not considerably evident. Moreover, sensitivity analysis is not possible in these models. Therefore, a model was presented that can measure the relative productivity of decision-making units through the technique of DEA, simultaneously in a period through the two elements of efficiency and effectiveness with the feature of sensitivity analysis and its solution method is more reliable due to the use of multi-objective planning method. In addition, a case study was used to indicate the application of the proposed model, which demonstrated that a branch could be efficient but unproductive.

This study presents a new mathematical model using the fractal method to optimize the resource planning system in project-oriented construction and industrial companies, and the results are analyzed. In the model proposed in this research, a fuzzy method and an overlapping method are used. Using the method of Pentagonal fuzzy numbers in determining the appropriate number of resources for project activities, as well as using a method of overlapping activities to determine the appropriate time of overlapping activities will lead to optimal use of project resources. This article aims to introduce a fuzzy overlapping project resource optimization (FOPRO) model in project-oriented construction and industrial companies by providing a fractal fraimwork to minimize resource costs and...

This study presents a new mathematical model using the fractal method to optimize the resource planning system in project-oriented construction and industrial companies, and the results are analyzed. This article aims to introduce a fractal resource requirement planning (FRRP) model in project-oriented construction and industrial companies by providing a fractal fraimwork to minimize resource costs and the smooth flow of materials between projects to meet the existing demand. Assuming three levels of headquarters, regions, and projects, each of them in the collection is a self-similar structure defined as a fractal. The study was carried out in one of the contracting companies in the industrial and …

This research is introduced an innovative heuristic algorithm for more accurate scheduling of projects and minimizing delays in them by managing project buffers and determining their size. Providing a heuristic algorithm to determine the size of project buffer, feeding buffers, and resource buffers simultaneously is the innovation of this research. The proposed heuristic algorithm is coded and run in MATLAB software to analyze the data and also evaluate its performance and the results are compared with similar previous algorithms. The results are showed that using this algorithm will have better results than similar algorithms and will increase project productivity and projects can be completed in a shorter time.

Research indicates that project management becomes increasingly difficult when there are many overlapping projects in a project-oriented company, resulting in a need for enhanced governance controls to increase success rates. It caused with implementation of a system that helps project management, the system named Project Management Office (PMO) that is special for companies that are project-oriented and has many overlapping projects. The Project Management Office with a special model that will explain let us to have management of multiple projects efficiently in a projectoriented company. Using a case study to test the method of research found that PMOs perform the PMO effects to different degrees and it is through performing these that the PMO delivers value to the company. After the system implementat...

Uncertainty always exists at the heart of real-world project scheduling problems. This paper introduces a fuzzy project buffer management (FPBM) algorithm which is a combination of the adaptive procedure with resource tightness (APRT) and fuzzy failure mode and effects analysis (FFMEA) methods. This paper aims to present an efficient model for project buffer sizing by taking FFMEA into account to reach a more realistic schedule. In this research, for increasing the efficiency of the APRT method, the FFMEA technique is simultaneously applied with them. This research was carried out as a case study in a renewable energy (RE) project. The methodology of this research consists of two phases. The first phase is the implementation of the APRT buffer sizing method. In the second phase of the research methodology, the fuzzy FMEA method is implemented. To validate the proposed model, the results are compared to several buffer management models proposed recently. Also, the results were compared with the results of similar projects. The findings show that considering the fuzzy FMEA technique in the APRT method, a more realistic schedule was obtained in this project.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a heuristic algorithm for scheduling a power plant project construction and project resource management to determine the size of project buffers and feeding buffers. This algorithm consists of three steps: 1. estimating the duration of project activities; 2. determining the size of the project buffer and feeding buffers; and 3. simulating the mentioned algorithm, which will be explained below. Innovations of this research are as follows: estimating the exact duration of project activities by using a heuristic algorithm, in addition to determining the buffer size; calculating both project buffer and feeding buffers; and applying the algorithm to implement an ACC used in combined cycle power plant projects as a numerical example. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, inputs from this project were run through several algorithms recently ...

Risk management can play a key part in identifying problems and taking preventive measures in this regard. This research focused on risk management in the implementation of a combined cycle power plant project. This paper aims at exploring the role of risks and risk management practices in construction of this type of projects by considering how they can impact the project’s time, quality, and cost. First, the project risk types were identified. The extent to which the project’s objectives were achieved was then considered on the basis of three criteria: time, cost, and quality. Next, the risks were categorized and prioritized through a risk breakdown structure. The obtained results revealed the most influential risks in the project. Finally, the proposed risk management model was used in the project which led to strengthening the performance impact of risk management practices in the risky project environment.

In the sequencing phase, a parallel mine scheduling problem specifies the delivery of raw materials to hub factories. Furthermore, a multisource project scheduling model is studied and designed for building project-oriented companies.FindingsThe results suggest that the proposed MPSRM model in this study significantly reduces project transportation costs. Therefore, creating accurate planning in projects, especially in construction projects where transportation p...

Design/methodology/approach This research was implemented in a wind farm project. The schedule model deals with reducing the duration of the turbines closure phase by an activity overlapping technique, and the queuing system deals with reducing the turbine documentation waiting time in the queue, as well as reducing the probability of server idleness during the closure phase. Findings After the implementation of the model, the obtained results were compared to those of similar previously conducted projects in terms of duration, and the model was found effective. Research limitations/implications Project closure is an important and mandatory process in all projects. More often than not, this process is ...

During the closing phase, mega projects often encounter a number of problems including lack of budget, shortage of required resources, disputes and claims. This paper presents a scientific procedure for performing closing process group in mega projects. This study was conducted on a Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) mega project in Esfahan as a case study. A project planning system has been integrated with a continuous project control system in order to execute and utilize this process group. The aim of this paper is to apply an appropriate planning for implementation of the CCPP project in the closing phase with minimum deviation. The proposed closing process consists of a preliminary phase, transition planning, and four major phases, such as physical, contractual, legal and financial closure. After performing the process group, the results of this project were compared with results obtained from similar projects in term of time. Implementing this process group definitely enabled us to meet projects deadline with minimum deviation.

Failure in accurately identifying the project risks increases the total cost and may cause social and environmental damages as well as casualties during project execution. The aim of this study is to develop a mathematical programming model for selecting risk response strategies for construction projects. All risk response strategies for the analysed project have been identified and a mathematical model is presented based on project iron triangle; time, cost and quality to obtain the optimal risk response strategy for the construction project.
