Although sloping hydraulic jumps are frequent in energy dissipators, there are few studies regarding this type of phenomenon. Since the jump is accompanied by violent impacts and sudden variations of velocity and pressure, it is important to know the region where the phenomenon will occur, in order to make a safe and economic design possible. In this paper, a methodology for the determination of the start position of the sloping jump along a Creager spillway is introduced. It was verified that this position is a function of both the incident Froude number and the submergence factor.

This paper presents the development of a reduced hydraulic model (RHM) for the outflow operating system at the Forquilha IV (scale 1:10) tailings dam, owned by Vale S.A. The studies were performed by Centro de Pesquisas Hidráulicas e Recursos Hídricos (CPH) of Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and the company Vogbr Recursos Hídricos & Geotecnia Ltda. We present here a brief description of the model construction and the test battery set for the structure’s hydraulic analysis. RHM involves the hillside culvert, the dissipation box and the exit to the restitution tunnel. The RHM project represents an essential step in the first analysis of the hydraulic behavior of the prototype, considering the designed flood station (ten thousand-year flood flow), as well as the analysis of its operation with more frequent flows.

This study aims to present a methodology for the design of a surface drainage system for dry docks in shipyards, taking into account the rainfall intensity at the site, the damping capacity of the hydraulic structures (drainage channels) and the pumping capacity of the pumping system. A case study of a dry dock owned by Estaleiro Rio Grande, located at the state of Rio Grande do Sul, is presented. The results obtained indicate alternatives for channel and submersible pump sizing. These pumps would be used to control the dry dock flooding after an intense rainfall event.

RESUMO Diferentes sistemas hidráulicos instalados em barramentos têm sido utilizados como Mecanismos de Transposição de Peixes (MTP’s) e se constituem em uma alternativa para o movimento migratório de peixes para reprodução (“piracema”). A variação da declividade do MTP influencia a extensão do mesmo e consequentemente o custo final do mecanismo. Para determinar a melhor declividade do sistema, é necessário verificar parâmetros que influenciam a migração dos peixes, como campos de velocidades, níveis de dissipação de energia e tensão cisalhante de Reynolds nos tanques além do conhecimento de variáveis biológicas das espécies aquáticas a serem transpostas. Dentre as muitas obras de engenharia civil, especificamente para a geotecnia, o conhecimento do  comportamento erosivo dos solos é muito importante para o bom desempenho das obras de infraestrutura,  como, por exemplo, as obras de fundações de pontes e barragens com maciço em solo. Desta sorte, este trabalho  propõe um aparato capaz de medir a erodibilidade do solo exposto a um escoamento para diferentes velocidades  de fluxo. Ademais, apresentam-se os resultados de um solo sedimentar, classificado pelo sistema unificado de  classificação de solos (SUCS), como uma areia argilosa com alto percentual de finos e moderada plasticidade.  Através destes resultados, fora possível concluir sobre a classe erosiva do material, utilizando a proposição de  Briaud et al. (2001) e Arneson et al. (2012), calcular as taxas erosivas para cada uma das cinco velocidades de  escoamento adotadas e identificar a velocidade crítica com que se inicia o processo erosivo.

The Manning’s roughness coefficient is used for various hydraulic modeling. However, the decision on what value to adopt is a complex task, especially when dealing with natural water courses due to the various factors that affect this coefficient. For this reason, most of the studies carried out on the subject adopt a local approach, such as this proposal for the Doce River. Due to the regional importance of this river in Brazil, the objective of this article was to estimate the roughness coefficient of Manning along the river, in order to aid in hydraulic simulations, as well as to discuss the uncertainties and variations associated with this value. A mineração é uma atividade essencial para a economia brasileira. Todo o processo de mineração gera, entretanto, rejeitos que são dispostos na grande maioria das vezes em barragens. Essa escolha é pautada em questões essencialmente econômicas. Um dos métodos construtivos mais utilizados para a disposição em barragens de rejeitos no Brasil é o método de montante, como era o caso da Barragem de Fundão, localizada no subdistrito de Bento Rodrigues, Município de Mariana, no Estado de Minas Gerais. Essa barragem sofreu sua ruptura no dia 05 de novembro de 2015, que culminou em cerca de 32 Mm³ de rejeitos propagados pelo vale a jusante. A ruptura da Barragem I da Mina Córrego do Feijão ocorreu no dia 25/01/2019 e trouxe ao rio Paraopeba grande quantidade de rejeitos que alteraram significativamente a concentração de sólidos totais deste curso d`água. Imediatamente após o colapso dessa estrutura o IGAM, CPRM, COPASA e VALE iniciaram monitoramentos diários de diversos parâmetros de qualidade de água, dentre eles a concentração de sólidos totais (CST). Contudo, a bacia do rio Paraopeba, devido ao seu uso e ocupação, é uma bacia com diversas fontes de sólidos, de forma que se observa na análise dos dados significativas variações da CST entre as estações de monitoramento.  Para melhor avaliação da CST analisou-se 60 km do rio Paraopeba, divididos em 6 trechos, no período entre 30/01/2019 a 31/03/2019. Reservoirs built in watercourses are subject to some degree of silting. Therefore, it is important to estimate the volume of sediment accumulated, since this deposit may interfere with the functions of the reservoir. One way to do this is by using physical models. However, from the existing literature in the area it is not possible to answer some methodological questions that arise in a physical simulation of the silting, such as: which flow and solid discharge to use? Simulate a hydrogram or constant flow? Thus, this work had as objective to propose a simulation methodology of the silting in physical models, so that when using this methodology the observed siltation in the reduced model could represent the one of the prototype. Barragens tem sido consideradas como alternativas viaveis para geracao de energia, disposicao de rejeitos, dentre outros, tendo em vista criterios de reducao de custos, apesar de introduzir no sistema os riscos associados a ruptura. No Brasil, um dos tipos mais comuns de arranjo de barragem e aquele com macico em solo compactado. Uma vez que o risco de uma atividade resulta do produto entre a probabilidade de falha e as consequencias associadas, mantidas as probabilidades de falha, a reducao das consequencias da ruptura implica na reducao dos riscos da atividade. The installation of solar parks requires extensive areas and results in soil erosion in many cases. One suitable solution is applying lime to improve soil characteristics, such as mechanical strength, stability, workability, durability, and internal and surface erosion resistance. This soil treatment is of particular importance when dealing with hydraulic structures conceived in the solar park drainage systems. The erodibility tests were performed in a solar complex soil in an EFA apparatus constructed to measure the erosion rate of cohesive and non-cohesive soils in different flow rates. The tests were performed with or without 3% lime addition and two compaction conditions. The experiments indicated that the erodibility of lime-treated soils represents between 26% and 12% of the values obtained from untreated soils and under reduced compaction. The values ranged from 16% to 7% for controlled compaction. The results represent a significant reduction in the soil erodibility treated with lime even with reduced compaction, performing an efficient, economical, and sustainable solution for erosion control.

The study of the interaction between hydraulic structures in mobile bed river systems is complex because it involves sediment transport and dynamic changes in the boundary conditions, requiring the use of physical models. This article presents the procedure for the design and construction of a physical model of the reservoir and dam of the Small Hydroelectric Power Plant (SHPP) of Salto Paraopeba. In the design phase, computational modelling of sediment transport was used to reconstitute the primitive geometry of the river, and simulations of the flow regime and the transport capacity along the course of the river were also carried out; both results allowed to delimit the model extension. Among the main issues that may arise when evaluating studies of cascade dam ruptures, perhaps the most important, is to determine if the downstream dam can start into a cascade rupture, considering the hypothesis of the preliminary rupture of the upstream dam. This paper proposes a methodology to determine if a pair or a group of dams can fail in a cascade, suggesting a safe distance between them to avoid this effect. Additionally, this paper proposes a reunion with other researchers' methodologies in a step-by-step sequence, identifying when a cascade dam break is likely and should be included in the hypothetical dam break studies.

Estruturas hidráulicas de dissipação de energia em degraus são há muito utilizadas em obras de diferentes portes como infraestrutura urbana, drenagem rodoviária e vertedouros de usinas. Na mineração, pilhas de estéril – estruturas de disposição de materiais sem valor econômico, extraídos para liberação do minério das cavas – são aterros formados pelo método ascendente, com bancos a cada dez metros de desnível, podendo atingir, somados, até 300 m de empilhamento.
