It is all listlessness, decay, and stagnation... God seems to be nowhere there" 1-this is how the British politician William Gladstone spoke about the Ottoman Empire, prompted by his trip to Albania in 1859. His views toward the enslaved Balkans will be the primary focus of this paper, along with his perspectives on Ottoman Macedonia. We will concentrate on his political activities in the Balkans, examining the interventions and support he provided to the Balkan states during the Eastern Crisis, the Batac massacres, and the Eastern Rumelia crisis. The focal point of this investigation revolves around Gladstone›s political engagements in the Balkans, scrutinizing his interventions and support rendered to the Balkan states during pivotal events such as the Eastern Crisis, the Batac massacres, and the Eastern Rumelia crisis. Moreover, the paper aims to elucidate Gladstone›s political actions that deviated from the prevailing British politics of that era. While the British government advocated for the preservation of the Ottoman Empire, Gladstone, in stark contrast, championed an opposing stance. The paper endeavours to unravel the motivations behind his contrarian position. In the exploration of William Gladstone›s multifaceted role, emphasis will be placed on his public addresses and rallies across Great Britain, along with his speeches in the British Parliament. This analysis seeks to unveil the intersectionality of Gladstone›s theological doctrines and political ideology, providing a comprehensive understanding of the driving forces behind his activities. Of particular significance to Macedonia is Gladstone›s renowned statement concerning the region, a facet that will be intricately examined in this paper. The objective is to shed light on the intent and implications of his proclamation, thereby enriching our comprehension of the profound impact this British politician had on the geopolitical landscape.

Oктомвриската револуција ја отвори ерата на социјалистички револуции во 1917 година. Многу Македонци, впрочем како и припадници на многу други народи, зеле учество во Октомвриската револуција врз основа на принципите на комунизмот и интернационализмот. Овие Македонци кои учествувале во Големата револуција, претходно веќе живееле во eвропските земји и Русија, како печалбари или студенти. Тие понесени од гласот на Ленин, се вклучиле борбата за остварување на универзалните слободарски и хуманистички идеи на комунизмот.

This paper explores the complex relationship between the Roman empire and Gothic people from 238 to 382 C.E., focusing on the classification and understanding of Roman-Gothic foedus agreements. By analyzing primary sources such as Ammianus Marcellinus, Jordanes, Zosimus, Procopius and others, the paper wants to reassess whether these agreements can be accurately termed foedus, in the classical meaning of the word, given their distinct characteristics and historical contexts. The research
highlights the evolving dynamics of power between the Roman Empire and Goths, their military all­iances, negotiation, identity, and mutual dependency, alongside the roles of the Roman empire and Gothic communities during this period. Ultimately, the author argues for a deeper understanding of these treaties as forms of control rather than purely diploma­tic agreements, but at the same time, understanding their connected tradition, challenging longstanding generally one-sided and superficial scholarly interpretations.

Поаѓајќи од историските раскажувања за балканските народи, особено нивниот развој во XIX век, во овој труд ќе ги анализираме различните перспективи за создавањето на Грчката модерна држава. Трудот ќе се фокусира на судирот помеѓу западните убедувања за античкото минато на Грците и нивната поврзаност со Византиското наследство и православната вера. Се анализираат различни западни погледи кои го ставаат Византијското минато во негативен контекст кои го отфрлаат како различно од Римската култура. Проучувањето на просветителските ставови создава позадина за историското будење на балканските народи и ги поттикнува на формирање на национални историски наративи и јазици. Ќе анализираме различни пристапи кон таа историска реконструкција, посебно фокусирајќи се на грчката перспектива и обидите за претворање на Византија во Грчка држава. Ова историско истражување пробива преку западните стереотипи и ја истражува вистинската слика на минатото, допринесувајќи кон дебата за идентитет и националност на балканските народи во XIX век.
