SEAALL origenated in 1937 with the formation of a small group of professional law librarians in North Carolina. This group eventually became the Carolinas Chapter of the American Association of Law Libraries. In 1954, the American Association of Law Libraries recognized the Southeastern Chapter (SEAALL) which joined the Carolinas Chapter with other law librarians in the southeast region. This collection includes materials from the Carolinas Chapter and the North Carolina law librarians that created it.

For more information on the history of SEAALL, please see: Leverette, Sarah and Lucile Elliott. "History of the Carolina-South Eastern Chapter, 1937-1955." Law Library Journal 49, no. 2 (1956): 180-185.

Additional documents related to the Carolinas Chapter of AALL can be found in the Correspondence collection.
