Professor Gan has a BSc from Manchester University, a Masters in Clinical Pharmacy and a PhD in pharmacology from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).  She has numerous awards in publishing, including the Elsevier Top Reviewer of the Year Award and the most cited paper for Journal of Food Science (Wiley). Having published more than 200 international WOS-indexed journal articles, she has been a recipient of several research awards including Excellent Researcher and Quality Publication Awards (in individual categories) for many consecutive years. In 2019, she received the National Outstanding Educator Award 2019 in the category of National Outstanding Researcher. She has successfully graduated 16 PhD and 3 MSc students. Professor Gan is on the editorial board of many international journals including Seminars in Cancer Biology, Frontiers in Pharmacology, Plos One, Evidence Based Complementary Medicine and Current Pharmaceutical Design. She is currently heading the School of Pharmacy in Monash University Malaysia. Her research area is in the field of pharmacogenetics and toxicology. She has been conducting scientific writing workshops in the previous 10 years
