Dimitris Mourtzis is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics of the University of Patras. He is Vice-President of Research and Development of University of Patras, Director of the Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation (LMS), President of the OMEA committee (Internal Evaluation Team) for the evaluation of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics of the University of Patras and Vice-President of the Biosystems & Agricultural Engineering Department of the University of Patras. He is an elected Fellow of the International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), elected Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) Manufacturing Modelling for Management and Control, Education Liaison of IFAC TC5.2, elected Fellow of the International Federation of Information Processing IFIP WG 5.7-Advances in Production Management Systems, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Fellow Member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), Elected Member of the Presidential Board of the International Association of Learning Factories (IALF), member of the European Factories of the Future Association – EFFRA, European Manufacturing and Innovation Research Association (EMIRACLE), the European Aeronautics Science Network / Association EASN, the Research Promotion Foundations’ (RPF) Innovation and Research Information Systems (IRIS). His main research interests are focused in the area of Manufacturing Systems, Automation, Virtual and Augmented Reality in Manufacturing, Robotic Systems, and Manufacturing Processes Modelling & Energy Efficiency. He is also actively involved in the Digital Transformation of Manufacturing Companies and Implementation of Industry 4.0 new business models, both at a National and International level. He is a reviewer for more than one-hundred journals and many International Conferences and guest editor in several international Scopus-Indexed journals. He has organized and chaired many international scientific conferences and has been a member of more than one-hundred international organizing and program committees (IPC) in International Scientific Conferences. He has been involved in many RTD projects funded by the European Commission - EC. He has published more than 260 publications in international Scopus Indexed journals, book chapters and international conferences, reaching a total number of unique citations that exceeds 8.600 citations according to the Scopus, ISI Web of Knowledge and Google Scholar databases.
