World Data Center for Ionosphere and Space Weather

The World Data Center for Ionosphere and Space Weather (WDC-ISW) is responsible for the preservation and dissemination of National Institute of Information and Communications Technology's accumulated data and information on ionosphere and space weather.
The data handled by WDC-ISW includes Japanese domestic and Antarctic ionospheric observation data that have been accumulated and preserved over a long period of time as WDC for Ionosphere since International Geophysics Year (IGY) of 1957-1958, and space weather forecast data as International Space Environment Service (ISES) / Regional Warning Center (RWC). Part of them are the restored data from those recorded on film and paper media in the past to modern digital formats for preservation. The published data are used by a wide range of users including public institutions, research institutes, universities, etc.
The activities of WDC-ISW are carried out as a regular member of International Science Council (ISC) / World Data System (WDS), and contribute to international efforts related to the preservation and utilization of scientific data.

Data Download

Monthly data book containing summary data and ionospheric parameter values measured by the ionosondes installed at four sites in Japan (Wakkanai, Kokubunji, Yamagawa and Okinawa).

Yearly data book containing summary data and ionospheric parameter values measured by the ionosondes installed at Syowa Station in the Antarctica.

Ionosonde data in Japan (Wakkanai, Kokubunji, Yamagawa and Okinawa) as well as Syowa Station in the Antarctica.

Ionospheric parameters manually scaled from ionosondes in Japan (Wakkanai, Kokubunji, Yamagawa, and Okinawa) as well as Syowa Station in the Antarctica.

Handwritten ionospheric observation records including ionograms during 1936-1954 before the ionospheric observation became automatic operation.

Viewer for handwritten solar-terrestrial activity charts during1978-1998.

Solar feature database of our solar flare prediction model using deep neural networks, named Deep Flare Net (DeFN). This is used for training and testing datasets.

List of all the data received and archived by WDC-Ionosphere and Space Weather, including ionosphere vertical soundings observed by about 320 associated stations in the world.
