Stephanie Roberts
I am a Senior Lecturer teaching Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure and Evidence. I obtained an LLB (Hons) from UNL in 1999, an LLM in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the LSE in 2000 and a Ph.D from the LSE in 2009. I taught part-time at the LSE before joining Westminster in 2003. My main research interests are criminal appeals, miscarriages of justice and criminal law. I am also part of the Centre for the study of Law, Society and Popular Culture at the University of Westminster. I am Director of the University of Westminster Innocence Project which I created in September 2006. In 2006, I was part of the working group for the human rights organisation JUSTICE's response to the Government consultation paper, Quashing Convictions. In 2009 I was a visiting Professor at Cleveland State University in Ohio, USA teaching and researching into wrongful convictions from a comparative perspective.
I was awarded a department teaching prize at the LSE in 2002 and was also awarded a University of Westminster Teaching Fellowship in recognition of excellence in teaching and learning in 2006.
I am an Associate Examiner on the University of London's External LLB Programme for Criminal Law. I am an external examiner at Birkbeck, University of London, and the University of Huddersfield.
Current projects include articles on the compensation scheme for miscarriages of justice and the work of the Criminal Cases Review Commission. I am also working on a comparative project on criminal appeals between the UK and Australia and an analysis of fresh evidence appeals.
