​​The COVID-19 pandemic exposed the disturbing fact that, when there was an emergency, there was absolutely no coordination between laboratories across the United States. Clinical laboratories were doing one thing, public health laboratories were doing another, and hospital laboratories were doing yet another. Leaning on partnerships that were established during the pandemic, APHL members and staff have elevated the discussion about a national or global laboratory system to coordinate emergency responses.
