NOAA Earth Day

NOAA Boulder participated in NOAA’s Earth Day tribute featuring NOAA offices from coast to coast. From tours through laboratories, to life on a NOAA ship, storm spotting, to working with sea turtles, scroll down this page to take a trip through all that NOAA does across the Nation with our fun videos and activities.

Karin Gleason and Jared Rennie work at NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information in North Carolina discuss all the climate information that is archived in North Carolina as well as digitally, and some of the climate information you can access online.

Sean Waugh works with NOAA’s National Severe Storms Laboratory in Norman, Oklahoma. He gives a tour of a Mobile Mesonet, in other words, a moving laboratory on a truck. The Mobile Mesonet has instruments that measure temperature, pressure, humidity, wind and solar radiation, all while on the go.

 

Monica Madronich (CIRES) and Aleya Kaushik (CIRES) work with NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado discuss how air samples are sent to NOAA Boulder GML labs from all over the world where the amounts of various greenhouse gasses are measured.

 

Lieutenant Junior Grade Haley Wilson gives a tour of the R/V Storm Petrel and discusses the responsibilities for the ship in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary.

 

Hilary Glenn and Daniel Studt work with NOAA Fisheries in California. Hilary discusses river restoration and the protection of salmon, steelhead and sturgeon. Daniel discusses partnerships with commercial and recreational fishing, as well as the on fishing impacts from a changing climate.

 

Camryn Allen works with NOAA’s Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center in Hawaii. She discusses honu, green sea turtles. She talks about honu biology, impacts from a changing climate and how the public can report honu sightings.

Iosefa Siatu’u (CPC) is an educator at NOAA’s National Marine Sanctuary in American Samoa. He talks about his relationship with the ocean and how he talks to the public about the Sanctuary and the affects from a changing climate.
