Current Students

At Disability and Access Services, we work to provide reasonable accommodations for members of our community with documented disabilities to ensure that students are able to access and participate in the full range of opportunities available at Boston University. A reasonable accommodation is defined as a “Modification or adjustment to a course, program, service, job, facility, or activity that enables a qualified person with a disability to have an equal opportunity to participate.” This can include accommodations for academics, as well as housing and dining.

In higher education, there are no IEP or 504 teams, and parents or guardians are only in the conversation if you want them to be, which can be a huge change from high school. Instead, DAS uses an individualized approach that bases all decisions on the documentation of a student’s disability. We look for a student’s current significant need and determine accommodations on a case-by-case basis. This means that not all students with one kind of disability get the same service. It also means that some accommodations you have received at other institutions might look different here.

If you have any questions about this process or would like to meet with us before registering for services, please call us to set up an appointment. We can’t wait to meet you!
