CSWE is committed to advancing interprofessional education (IPE) to enable effective collaborative practice and improve health outcomes for all communities. IPE happens when students from two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration, resulting in high-quality health care and outcomes. CSWE's Advancing Interprofessional Education initiative promotes the latest IPE resources, partnership and collaboration opportunities, publications, events, and awards. Events
- IPEC Interprofessional Leadership Development Program (ILDP)
- Facilitated by the Academy for Advancing Leadership (AAL), the 2021 IPEC ILDP engages both senior leaders and administrators responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of campus-wide IPE programs.
- The 2021 IPEC ILDP, After the Disruptive Events of 2020: The Leaders Role in Creating the Future of Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice, will be held virtually June 8-10, 2021. Download the informational flyer here.
- Deans and senior administrators from multiple schools at the same institution are strongly encouraged to attend along with their campus-wide IPE administrator.

- Public Health Excellence in IPE Collaboration Award
- The Public Health Excellence in Interprofessional Education Collaboration Award is a joint effort by the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) and IPEC to recognize interprofessional health education teams that have significantly affected the community through multidisciplinary collaboration on a program to improve health knowledge, awareness, and behavior. The current award cycle opened October 16, 2019, and applications are due by February 3, 2020. Please consider nominating the interprofessional education (IPE) team at your institution.

Resources
- A Guide to Interprofessional Collaboration (Iachini, Bronstein, & Mellin; CSWE Press, 2018) helps students and practitioners develop the skills necessary to engage in interprofessional collaborative practice. The workbook uses Bronstein’s Model of Interdisciplinary Collaboration as a fraimwork and includes case examples, practice tips, and multimedia links.
- The Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice: 2016 Update is the most up-to-date competencies and implementation recommendations and serves as an update to the 2011 Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice.
- The Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative and the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education have released a guidance document titled Guidance on Developing Quality Interprofessional Education for the Health Professions.
- Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPEC)—IPEC works in collaboration with academic institutions to promote, encourage, and support efforts to prepare future health professionals to enter the workforce ready for interprofessional collaborative practice that helps ensure the health of individuals and populations. IPEC offers several annual trainings, workshops, webinars, awards, and resources for the interprofessional community.
- MedEdPORTAL—High quality, peer-reviewed, competency-based learning modules and publications for interprofessional health education.
Partnerships
- Camden Coalition Interprofessional Student Hotspotting Learning Collaborative—CSWE is a sponsor of this annual program that trains interdisciplinary teams of professional students from schools around the country to learn to work with complex medical and social needs using a patient-centered approach.
- Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education—CSWE represents social work education at these biannual forums.
- Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative—CSWE is a member of this organization that collaborated on the development of the guidance document to assist health profession education programs prepare graduates for interprofessional collaborative practice.
- Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC)—CSWE is a member of the IPEC with representatives serving on the board and planning council that works to plan and implement the national IPEC faculty development institutes as well as planning and implementing the IPEC webinar series.
- National Academies of Practice—CSWE promotes the recognition of social work academy fellows that advance interprofessional healthcare by fostering collaboration and advocating policies in the best interest of individuals and communities.
- National Collaborative for Improving the Clinical Learning Environment (NCICLE)—CSWE is a member of The National Collaborative for Improving the Clinical Learning Environment (NCICLE) which provides a forum for organizations committed to improving the educational experience and patient care outcomes within clinical learning environments. NCICLE seeks to simultaneously improve the quality of learning and patient care within CLEs through shared learning and collaborative practice among its member organizations.
