Land Tenure

Land is the single greatest resource in most countries and for most people land provides the platform for their homes, their employment and the production, processing and distribution of their food and other products. Land also has cultural, social and environmental significance. Insecure land tenure rights and weak governance leave people marginalized and vulnerable to being evicted from their homes and farms, with women being particularly at risk. Improving secure access to land affects how people decide to use the land and whether they will invest in improvements. More secure and equitable access to land can help to empower women and disadvantaged groups. The importance of land tenure is reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals.
