Volunteer with the Museum

We can’t do what we do without the help of our volunteers! From caring for our animal habitats, to keeping the Museum in tip-top shape, there’s a chance for everyone to volunteer at the Museum. You’ll get to learn about biology, horticulture, engineering, and animal care. Be a part of our fun and enthusiastic team! Do something unique and interesting that gives back to the community and helps build a world-class Museum for the citizens of North Carolina and beyond.

Volunteering at Summer Camp

Our Summer Camp program welcomes Youth Volunteers, ages  14 – 17, to support the informal science education led by Camp Staff. Camp Volunteers prepare the classroom for the day, help the Educator and Assistant with classroom management, and work directly with the kids on various experiments, projects, and activities. Volunteers help provide a fun and safe environment while assisting campers in their exploration of science!

Group Volunteer Opportunities

The Museum’s Volunteer program welcomes groups of volunteers for a day of service. Tasks can be indoors or outdoors, working with our various Museum Teams, including but not limited to Animal Care, Landscaping, Education, Green Team, and Special Events. Each task typically requires 5 – 10 people, so large groups may be split among activities. Group projects are scheduled Monday – Friday from 9 am – 4 pm and last 2 – 3 hours. The Museum is closed on Mondays from September to May, so we especially welcome volunteer groups on these days to help with maintenance tasks.

For groups larger than 10 individuals, please request your day of service at least 2 months in advance. This will allow us to plan meaningful projects for you to engage in.

Please fill out the form below to indicate your group’s interest!
