Science serving coastal communities
About us
The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science was formed in 1999 as the focal point for NOAA’s coastal ocean science efforts. We help NOAA meet its coastal stewardship and management responsibilities, and we provide coastal managers with the scientific information necessary to decide how best to protect environmental resources and public health, preserve valued habitats, and improve the way communities interact with coastal ecosystems. Our work includes: -Coastal Change: Vulnerability, Mitigation, and Restoration -Marine Spatial Ecology -Social Science -Stressor Impacts and Mitigation

A team of scientists surveyed 51 marshes in the San Francisco Bay estuary over 10 years to explore how environmental conditions and species traits influence plant community variability, scaling up from individual marshes to the entire estuary. The study results will help scientists and land managers better predict plant species response to sea level rise. https://lnkd.in/eE9zu_dM #SanFranciscoBay

Did you know that common chemicals used in thousands of products designed to protect against harmful effects of ultraviolet light threaten corals and other marine life? Mineral sunscreen, which does not use (chemical) UV filters, is considered a better option because there are less effects to aquatic organisms. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gHWKYTb #CoralsWeek
