Hydrographic, temperature, salinity, and chemical data were collected using bottle, CTD, and XBT casts in a world-wide distribution from January 1, 1987 to December 31, 1998. Data were submitted by Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research; Bremerhaven, Germany as a part of the WOCE project.

NCEI launched publicly on April 22, 2015.
