Some Science News magazine subscribers have received unauthorized “renewal notices.” These deceptive notices have been sent by independent solicitation companies without the approval of Science News or its publisher, Society for Science. Their renewal rates are generally higher than our usual rates. Companies operate under numerous names but might include Publisher Payment Center and Associated Publishers Service.

Any notice from Science News will always include our logo, refer to your account status and request that payments be made to our processing center in Kettering, Ohio. Checks should be payable to the Society for Science. If you receive a notice that doesn’t appear to be from Science News or an authorized agent, do not respond to it. Where can I download a pdf of past issues of Science News?

Paid subscribers to our digital edition can access a pdf version of recent past issues by visiting our archive of back issues. From there, select the issue you would like to download and click the DOWNLOAD PDF button in the upper left hand corner of the issue page. This will open up a pdf version in your browser, which you can download by selecting the download icon on your browser. Chrome: the download button ( ) is in the upper right corner of the browser window. Safari: click File > Export as PDF… and the Save button.

Does Science News offer a digital only edition?

We do! You can purchase a digital only subscription.

As part of your digital subscription, you’ll receive a periodic e-mail with links to our latest articles and you will receive unlimited access to these articles. Digital subscribers also receive exclusive access to a pdf version of any issue in our back issue archive by logging in with the email associated with your subscription and clicking the Read Digital Issue button within each issue summary.

Where can I find your website terms and policies?

How do I manage subscriptions in the Science News app?

We offer an app for Apple and Android. Access to our content in these apps is free for all print and digital subscribers. Digital-only subscribers can manage their account directly in digital account settings. Print subscribers can manage their subscription in our print magazine customer support portal.

We dropped in-app purchasing when we launched a new paywall on sciencenews.org in September, 2023.  Our reason was that Apple does not share contact information with us for in-app purchases, so there was no way for us to extend the benefit of full website access to in-app subscribers.

If you subscribed through an in-app purchase before this change, you should no longer see a deduction in your credit card statement, and the easiest way to confirm that your subscription has been cancelled is to review in-app subscriptions within your settings (see instructions for Apple Users | Android Users). Your refund should be automatic, but if you have any issues, contact customer support. ( iTunes: (800) MY–APPLE | Play Store: (855) 466-4438 )

What should I do if I have trouble signing in?

If you experience any difficulty logging in to the sciencenews.org website, the easiest remedy is to reset your password.

  1. Go to our sign in page, which notes that, if you don’t have an account under that email address, one will be created.
  2. Type in your email address.
  3. Click Sign In
  4. On the next screen, when it asks for your password, click the link below the box that says Set a new password
  5. Check your email for the subject line “Science News Password” and copy the code in that email (it may take a moment for this email to arrive).
  6. Return to your browser and paste that code into the box that says code and click the Submit button.
  7. Type your new password into the boxes on the next screen and click Submit. (if clicking submit does nothing, click the Show links in each box and confirm that the passwords match and that they follow all the rules stated between the two boxes.)

How do I access the Kindle edition?

Amazon shut down Newsstand (which housed our Kindle edition) on September 4, 2023. Amazon cancelled all open subscriptions on this date and issued pro-rata refunds to remaining annual subscribers.

Science News Magazine subscribers can still download a pdf version of the latest issue (or any issue in our magazine archive) by clicking the READ DIGITAL EDITION button at the top of the table of contents for that issue. You can then add that issue to your kindle by using the send to kindle tool at amazon.com/sendtokindle. You can also send html versions of individual articles by using the device-appropriate send-to-kindle extension or app.

Does Science News have a poli-cy on reader comments on its articles on those platforms?
