Minnesota has long been a world leader in developing and upholding strict regulatory processes for the development of natural resources and modern mining. If we don’t meet the rules, we don’t mine.
The Twin Metals Minnesota mine will be underground, minimizing the surface
footprint. Half the tailings will be stored underground as well.
Tailings (the sand and silt left over after metal extraction) will be stored using the dry stack method. This eliminates the need for tailings ponds and dams. Due to the
unique geology of the mineral deposit, and the mining method we will use, tailings
will be non-acid generating.
Through more than a decade of study, we’ve clearly mapped the location of the minerals within the deposit. We know exactly where they are. 3D modeling also allows us to access and extract only the ore that contains the valuable minerals.
The project will not discharge process water and the water used in concentrating
the minerals will be reused on site.
After operations are complete, most of the infrastructure will be removed and the project site will be replanted with native vegetation to reflect the topography and surrounding natural elements.
Agencies with regulatory authority over our project include:
Twin Metals Minnesota will follow the National Mining Association’s CORESafety® Program — 20 modules designed to prevent injuries and ensure mine safety. Mines following CORESafety have seen a 77% increase in production.1
We are committed to developing and operating a safe, sustainable mine for workers and the environment. We will meet or exceed all standards in place because we’re passionate about putting the best project forward for Minnesotans. This is our home, too.
