There are many resources to obtain the current observation (METAR) and TAF, the newly redesigned AviationWeather.gov site is a fantastic resource for pilots. Be sure to check out the graphical page too with the ability to plot your route alongside meteorological information and vertical cross sections. At the Lubbock Forecast Office, we recognize that a large percentage of operations include Part 91 General Aviation in addition to Part 135 (Air Taxi) and Part 121 (Air Carrier). We understand that every flight is important for the aircrew, passengers, and the families awaiting their safe return. With this in mind, during your pre-flight planning process, if our office may contribute to your understanding of the weather of the day, please do not hesitate to give us a call M-F 700a - 430p at (806) 745-4260. You'll be connected to an on-duty meteorologist who can answer those tough what-if, possible scenario, and most likely types of questions. We are here to help! Please realize that while we can provide meteorological insight based on years of experience, it is ultimately the pilot-in-command who must bear the go/no-go decision.
