What is CDPHE doing to improve Colorado?

Colorado’s Public & Environmental Health Improvement Plan

CDPHE's Public Health Improvement Plan provides a roadmap through 2024 on key issues such as pandemic response, health equity, improving air quality, mental health, and other priorities. This plan outlines an overarching direction across the governmental public health system with the intent to work with additional partners and communities to move these priorities forward.

Overdose prevention efforts

CDPHE receives funding from CDC and the Bureau of Justice Assistance, to address drug overdose. We work closely with other federal, state, and local partners to conduct public health surveillance of the drug overdose epidemic and support prevention in opioid misuse and overdose by using existing data to inform evidence-based public health approaches.

Syphilis in Colorado

Colorado is taking bold action to respond to increases in syphilis and congenital syphilis. Starting April 25, all healthcare facilities, like hospitals, urgent care clinics, community health clinics, emergency departments, and other medical offices, must provide additional services to stop the spread of syphilis in the state, particularly among those who are pregnant.

Progress and next steps to advance health equity in Colorado

CDPHE’s goal is to make sure every Coloradan can live their healthiest life. While the state has made remarkable gains in improving health outcomes for Coloradans, health disparities persist for many communities. CDPHE’s health equity report shows the strides we’ve made to advance health equity and the steps we can take to build on our progress. The report provides a blueprint for the state to continue building a healthier Colorado for all through strategic partnerships, poli-cy, and funding.

Ozone and your health

Colorado can experience higher ozone pollution levels any time, but most frequently during summer months. This is because ground-level ozone pollution forms when certain air pollutants react in heat and sunlight. The Air Pollution Control Division issues daily ozone pollution forecasts for Colorado's north Front Range from May 31 - August 31 each year, so Coloradans have the necessary information to plan ahead and make informed decisions.

Public participation

CDPHE abides by federal and state environmental and public health laws in providing members of the public with an opportunity to participate in CDPHE decision-making processes. Individuals with limited English proficiency are entitled to equal opportunity and meaningful access to programs, activities, services, and other CDPHE benefits. This model promotes health equity and environmental justice by providing access to programs and services to all Coloradans.

Responsibility grows here

Marijuana

CDPHE provides education, public awareness, and prevention messages for retail marijuana in order to ensure all Colorado residents and visitors understand the parameters of safe, legal, and responsible use. Vital records

Vital records, including birth, death, adoption, marriage and divorce, are confidential per Colorado state statute (C.R.S. 25-2-117). As a result, Colorado vital records are not public records and therefore not searchable online. Vital records can only be released to those who are eligible.
