The Environmental Agriculture Program focuses on permitting and compliance assurance at Colorado’s animal feeding operations. We strive to implement state and federal law in a reasonable manner to protect Colorado’s natural resources. Our regulations apply to the following types of livestock facilities:
- Animal feeding operations (AFOs).
- Concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).
- Housed commercial swine feeding operations (HCSFOs).
The regulatory requirements vary by the size of the operation and facilities in Colorado range from a few horses to feedlots that can hold up to 125,000 cattle.
