Overview

 

A strengthening low pressure system produced severe weather as it quickly moved from southwest Minnesota to western Lake Superior Tuesday afternoon-evening, dragging a cold front through the Upper Mississippi Valley. This system produced a handful of tornadoes across southeast Minnesota, western Iowa, and northwest Wisconsin.

From about 7 to 10 PM on September 24, severe weather consisting of damaging winds and two tornadoes occurred mainly along and north of Interstate 90 across southeast Minnesota and western Wisconsin. A total of 11 severe weather warnings (10 Severe Thunderstorm and 1 Tornado) were issued during this time period by NWS La Crosse. Wind gusts were mainly in the 40 to 60 mph range, with the strongest winds of 70 to 80 mph reported near Zumbro Falls, MN (Wabasha County). Two tornadoes were confirmed within NWS La Crosse's warning area: one in Lake City, MN and one near Greenwood, WI.
