Say that you have chosen our Showcase+ theme, to build a brand new Drupal 8 site on.
You have chosen one of the built-in color schemes (flavors) from the theme settings, and you’re starting out with using some of your other corporate branding elements, such as your logo.
You’re entering your own logo replacing the default in the demo. Your logo happens to be dark and doesn’t look too nice in that blue background, not to mention that the contrast is problematic to say the least.
What do you do? Do you need to start messing with CSS?
This is our first free Drupal 8 theme release in a while — and it’s a great one.
Meet Showcase Lite, a free Bootstrap-based Drupal 8 theme and the core of our Premium Showcase+. Showcase Lite, like its Premium sibling, helps you create a great-looking site for creatives, trendsetters, design and development studios.
It’s been a few years now that flat design took the world by storm — until the world started realizing its usability drawbacks and limitations. Great though it may look, all flat design lacks important signifiers of interactivity deteriorating the user’s experience. And that’s just one thing. And everyone started noticing those issues. And everyone started discussing them.
So, would this mean that we would have to go back to skeuomorphism with all the gloss and patterns and textures?
Nah.
Still, something better than all-flat looks was needed, something to add depth to the User Interface.
During these same years we got a brand new tool or, better, toolset, which enables us to achieve visually great results, in code, while keeping everything lightweight: “CSS3", with all the greatness it brings.
So, fast forward a couple of years (and flat design disappointments), and mixing necessity with possibility for something better than all-flat looks, we now have “semi-flat”, or “flat 2.0” design.
Meet Showcase+
Showcase+ combines the minimalism and flatness inspired by Scandinavian design, with wonderful CSS3-powered user interface touches. And it takes customization options to a whole new step with its 100+ theme settings.
JeRegroupeMesCredits.com is a French financial services information website that uses Drupal. The company offers to French customers purchasing loans, a financial service for regrouping their loans (for car, real estate, etc.).
Alexis F, team manager shared their project goals:
“The project was about building an informational website that can evolve quickly and effectively in the future. Drupal was the best CMS to do this on, as it offers a lot of modules. The first work was to find a quality template to use as basis and apply the design available from the marketing team.”
“After searching some templates, the development team decided to choose the free version of the Scholarly theme, Scholarly Lite from More Than Themes. All templates produced by this company feature quality, high performance (SEO, responsive) and good design.”
Alexis explained the criteria for choosing a Drupal theme, for their project:
“The most important criterion for the SEO and site development team was to find a responsive theme. The second was to choose a classic architecture and the third was to find a theme based on Bootstrap.”
Starting with clear goals, a good theme as the basis and building on Drupal enabled Alexis and team to move quickly:
“In just 3 weeks of development, the website was finished. The final version is very different from the original looks of the Scholarly Lite theme. We just have one menu or the basic theme have two menus. We have quick links and fixed banner at the top, and individual pages are totally different.”
Closing, Alexis stated:
“More Than Themes is for us the best database of Drupal templates, there are high quality and responsive for good prices, it’s a very good investment for your website”.
Scholarly is our take on how a good Drupal theme for education-oriented websites should be. In today’s economy, there’s an ever-growing need for building powerful, flexible and scalable sites for university departments, traditional and online schools and seminars, as well as, in general, businesses centered around education and training. Scholarly was designed to provide a well-thought use-case scenario that is specific enough to provide a great solution out-of-the-box for such sites.
Scholarly for Drupal 8 is in late stages of development. Stay tuned for news.

Robert Fulcher, Solutions Architect of iWAT, which carried out the project shared:
The client came to us to replace an older Wordpress site. The site was very outdated and not responsive. The key goal for the project was building a flexible, updated user experience. The ability for the site to grow over time as the client’s needs grow was also important.

Robert went on to explain their thinking on choosing a theme, to base the project on:
The site needed to convey the art and products well across browsers and down to phones. We picked Startup Growth because of the great graphical displays that were available.

About the theme
Startup Growth is a state-of-the-art Drupal theme with a wealth of Drupal as well as non-Drupal related features. With Startup Growth we were after an equally powerful, feature-packed Drupal theme, aimed for lots of different content presentation scenarios; products and services, client success stories and testimonials, blog posts and more. At the same time, we wanted to maintain a clean, easy-to-use look. However, it should not be the typical dry-of-all-design look that’s got quite popular nowadays. Instead, we were after a sober, classic look that still maintains a modern character. All in all, Startup Growth should offer the ideal package for a young (or even older) company, which aims to convey a sense of professionalism through its website.
