For more than 40 years I used Pentax cameras and lenses (along with a range of 3rd party lenses). My first SLR camera was a Pentax K1000 - built like a brick, completely manual and the battery was only required for the light meter. I still own that K1000 and it is fully functional (or at least it appears to operate as expected but I haven’t run a roll of film through it for 20+ years). I subsequently owned 6 other Pentax SLR cameras but made the shift to digital when Pentax introduced the ist-D in 2004. I then upgraded progressively through K-20D, K-5, K-3 and K-1 DSLRs.
In 2019, I switched to the Panasonic Lumix micro four-thirds system. Smaller, lighter and cheaper, this new system meant I could carry more gear with less weight allowing me to travel with both landscape and wildlife gear, which had become progressively more challenging as airlines reduced carry-on weight limits and my ageing body strained under the load.
