January 2025
6 Jan 2025: The HMT WWE-PEAR seminar series will be cancelled for 9 January because of the federal holiday, and Vijay T. will be rescheduled for Feb 11th.
December 2024
20 Dec 2024: The HMT Team will evaluate the lapse in appropriations situation as it unfolds, but should we be in a lapsed position, we will cancel activities in an as-needed fashion. Upon re-opening we will do our best to reschedule any activities, however, our schedules are packed so some activities may have to be cancelled.
10 Dec 2024: The HMT will be will be attending AMS in New Orleans with a number of oral presentations:
05 Dec 2024: The HMT will be hosting the Precipitation Experiment for Atmospheric Rivers on March 24-27 and April 7-10, 2025. Contact your SOO for more information on signing up.
04 Dec 2024: The RRFS/REFS from EMC is down until further notice. No graphics will be available until its return later in the Winter season.
03 Dec 2024: The HMT seminar series has kicked off with a merger of WWE and PEAR topics. Recordings and Slides will be available after the fact. See the Seminar Series page here: https://www.wpc.ncep.noaa.gov/hmt/seminars.shtml
November 2024
22 Nov 2024: The HMT will be hosting the Winter Weather Experiment in February 10-14, 24-28 and March 10-14. Contact your SOO for more information on signing up. Look for the registration in todays NWS Insider.
06 Nov 2024: The HMT will be hosting the FRANA focus groups In January, February and March. Contact your SOO for more information on signing up. This focus group will be an evaluation activity comparing the Freezing Rain analysis derived in MRMS to observations. The NSSL team has a JTTI project and seeks your feedback on improving this new experimental dataset.
04 Nov 2024: The Precipitation Experiment for Atmospheric Rivers was held October 29-31. The next session will be Nov 12-14.
September 2024
27 Sep 2024: Coming attractions include the Winter Weather Experiment and combined WWE and PEAR seminar series.
26 Sep 2024: The Precipitation Extremes from Atmospheric River experiment Registration ends October 1st, dates are set for October 29-31, November 12-14. The WPO Notice of Funding Opportunity is available via grants.gov (search WPO) with many competitions including Testbeds, Observations and Social and Behavorial and Economic Sciences. Please reach out to us if you plan to collaborate with the HMT.
22 Sep 2024: The HMT participated in the NWA Annual Meeting via a Showcase on the HMT and Workshop using DESI and FFaIR like activities. HMT assisted and led various activies including the NWA Masterclass and the Research and Operations Nexus.
August 2024
06 Aug 2024: FFaIR has concluded and has begun the wind down and analysis Phase. The Atmospheric River experiment is spinning up. Announcements are imminent for an October and November partial week experiment.
May 2024
14 May 2024: FFaIR looms large over the HMT development. Seminar dates have been updated while we await titles for the finalized schedule. HREF sounding viewer is online. NSSL has added a 12z cycle for their MPAS run and images are flowing to our realtime and retro pages.
April 2024
26 April 2024: Due to issues, we have taken the time to update the HMT Real time web pages. Development for FFaIR is ongoing with new additions planned for model imagery including an HREF sounding viewer.
5 April 2024: The 2024 FFaIR experiment has set its dates below. If you wish to participate please Register by May 1, 2024.
1 April 2024: The RRFS has entered the science freeze. We expect a few more changes to the output data streams.
February 2024

1 Feb 2024: The HMT welcomes Tomer Burg to our staff. He joins us as the new Atmospheric River Experiment Facilitator.
