Featured here are John Buckland Wright's illustrations for "Le Sphinx" by the Belgian Symbolist Iwan Gilkin. Richard Sica gives the back story to these rare illustrations from his collection:

These were John Buckland Wright's first book illustrations, preceding those for Keats' Collected Sonnets (1930). They did not however reach the publication stage. Two were published later in 1934, and another two in 1959. The whole set of 14 engravings was not published until 1960, when this set was issued to the members of Graphia: "The engravings have been printed from the blocks on the Krol & Courtin Press, Antwerp."
