Christian scholars in early medieval W Eur might not have been able to read Greek & Hebrew, but were aware of their importance as original languages of the Bible. Scribes attempted to copy these alphabets. ex: 11th-century compilation of scientific works by writers such as H Maurus & Isidore of Seville.
