Bio

Solana is a research scientist with the University of Washington Climate Impacts Group. They have a background in planning, political science and multimedia journalism. Solana holds a master’s degree in urban planning from the UW College of Built Environments. During their time as a graduate student, they were appointed the Applied Research Consortium fellowship which supported their professional development with intercultural communication training and supported their thesis research with the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe. Their research includes tribal-led managed retreat due to climate and environmental change as well as the transportation and mobility challenges and needs in that context. They previously interned at Seattle Department of Transportation Policy and Planning Division, the office of Councilmember Tammy Morales, 7 Directions Architects & Planners, Urban Indian Health Institute and American Indian Development Associates.
