MFA in Cinematic Arts, Film and Television Production
- A thorough understanding of the fundamental disciplines inherent in motion picture, television, and web production, including producing, directing, editing, cinematography, production design, and sound with an emphasis in coherent visual and auditory communication.
- Acquire broad knowledge and appreciation of the history of film, television, and new media. This includes development of advanced critical thinking necessary to create compelling stories by placing them within a social and historical context that informs story content.
- Develop and refine collaboration and storytelling skills to communicate effectively, and demonstrate these skills in the execution of media projects.
- Professional competency in the methods of producing, directing, editing, cinematography, production design, and sound for all common production platforms and genres including fiction, documentary, television and experimental productions.
- Awareness of, and experimentation with, the evolving nature of the film and television industry and how interactive storytelling, animation, visual effects, world building, the web, and non-linear storytelling play a part in cinematic arts.
- Specialization in at least two core production disciplines with substantial proficiency in at least one, which is demonstrated in participation on a tangible Advanced Project produced within one of the common production platforms — film, television, and the web.
BFA in Cinematic Arts, Film and Television Production
- Acquire broad knowledge and appreciation of the history of film, television, and new media, including development of the critical thinking necessary to form a historical context and inform story content.
- Acquire broad knowledge in the humanities, social sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and the arts, understanding the relevance of these disciplines to the creation and production of moving media for all platforms.
- Ability to generate and develop ideas for film and other media that include writing from personal experience, visual and aural acuity, technical excellence, dramatic distillation, and emotional resonance.
- Ability to visually express these original ideas on film, video, or in new media, and to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the concepts central to the art of directing projects for film, television, documentaries, dramatic narrative projects, and the web.
- Mastery of technical and aesthetic tools of the major disciplines of the cinematic arts: directing, producing, editing, cinematography, production design, writing, and sound.
- Specialization in at least two core production disciplines with substantial proficiency in at least one, which is then exercised in a Collaborative Project produced in any one of the common production platforms — film, video, and the web.
- Awareness of, and familiarity with, other concentrations within cinematic arts including animation, interactive storytelling, game design, visual effects, the web and digital media, and writing, and how they all contribute to the evolving nature of storytelling in film, television, and the web.
