Sam Hafferty

Emerging Scholar


Sam Hafferty is a creative technologist and researcher. They graduated from New York University with a master’s degree in interactive telecommunications, following an individualized bachelor’s degree in post-colonial studies and history. Their graduate thesis, discernible.tech, focused on questions of transparency, education, and consent in addressing the expansion of automated policing infrastructure.

Previously, Hafferty served as an educator at the Free Library of Philadelphia and as a communications worker for local arts nonprofits. Currently, they support outreach efforts as a volunteer member of Amnesty International’s Technology and Human Rights Taskforce.

At CITP, Hafferty is interested in contributing to work concerning data privacy regulation and broadband equity.
