About The Austrian Vine History of The Austrian Vine: The border motif of a vine and flowers were discovered from an Austrian sampler, from Salzburg  stitched in the 1820-30's period of time. These motifs are common themes, for flowers and vines have always existed. Flowers bloom everywhere in Austria, even in the winter!  I know, because I lived there in college on a semester abroad program.  And, I've returned a few times, amazed at green grass and flowers in December! The design can be stitched in multiple sequences to create a long border. Borders were common design traits of clothing and home décor. Sometimes multiple borders came together to create one larger border.
