Get Involved

As a student, being a part of an organization like DanceBlue can open doors to lifelong friendships that extend far beyond the marathon and your time in college. DanceBlue is an entirely student-run organization that brings together individuals with a shared passion for making a positive impact, but also creates a sense of community and camaraderie that can last a lifetime. Whether you’re looking to take your first step into the world of philanthropy, or simply want to join an incredible movement for a great cause, DanceBlue offers a range of opportunities that cater to your preferences and interests.

Whenever you want to start your DanceBlue journey, there are numerous ways to get involved. You can form your own team, join an organization’s team, apply to become an individual dancer, or contribute by volunteering at the marathon. If DanceBlue has made a deep impact on your life, you can apply to become a part of the DanceBlue Committee, which runs the organization each year.

No matter how you become involved with DanceBlue, you’re not just participating in an event; you’re becoming part of a vibrant and compassionate community dedicated to the fight against pediatric cancer. We can’t wait to welcome you to the DanceBlue family this year and see you on the floor, ready to dance ‘til the battle is won!

Volunteer registration typically opens in the spring–around a month before the 24-hour marathon. Volunteers have the opportunity to help the marathon run smoothly by serving food to dancers, helping with bag check, working the recovery room, handing out snacks and water, and checking in dancers and community members in the crowd. Shifts can last anywhere from 2-4 hours and run for the full 24 hours of the marathon. Volunteering is a great first step at getting involved with DB. Last year, we had nearly 300 volunteers at the marathon – we could not do this without your help! Keep an eye out on our website for updates about volunteer registration.

Becoming a dancer is a great next step in getting involved with DanceBlue. It allows you to participate in the games and activities taking place on the floor, develop friendships within your morale groups and across organizations other than your own, and see first-hand how Committee works and operates. All it takes to become a dancer is registering, attending spirit point opportunities, and raising the minimum fundraising amount. We would love to see you on the floor this year! Make sure to register your team before the deadline on October 19 or as an individual dancer in the weeks following the team deadline.

If you have volunteered, danced, or been involved with DanceBlue in any way in the past, joining the DanceBlue Committee is perfect for you! As a completely student-run organization, DanceBlue is led by 11 chairs, each with coordinators and committee members. Whether you’re interested in the logistics of the marathon or the programming, the DanceBlue Committee is the best place to combine your skills and passion to help create the best event of the year. Applications for chair and coordinator positions open after the marathon each year on BBNvolved, with Committee applications to follow. The DanceBlue Committee for the following year is formed before the end of the school year!

Being a part of DanceBlue doesn’t end after you graduate! Whether you were a dancer or on Committee, you can easily stay involved. Through local alumni events and fundraising, there are many ways to continue your support as an alumni. Check out our alumni page to learn more and stay up to date on events!
