Welcome
At Wayne State University, we strive to make our campus an inclusive environment for everyone. We welcome all people and understand that their unique experiences, talents, and perspectives make us a stronger institution and better individuals. Our university, which has a long history of meaningful engagement with our community, is guided by our core values and strategic plan.
Wayne State is remarkable for many reasons, but our ability to open doors to people of all backgrounds, cultures, identities, and ideologies is our proudest legacy. Our unwavering commitment to inclusive excellence continues to be our North Star.

The Office of Multicultural Student Engagement (OMSE) celebrates the broad diversity within our student body by cultivating a campus environment where students feel a sense of belonging, thrive socially, and succeed academically.

Wayne State has multiple Centers, Offices, and Programs that uplift the diversity of our community and play critical roles in creating an inclusive environment where each individual can thrive on campus and beyond.

The Culture & Climate Study inspires a welcoming and inclusive campus climate that is grounded in mutual respect, nurtured by dialogue, evidenced by a pattern of civil interaction, and is one of the foundations of our educational model.

When our faculty and staff feel connected, supported, and encouraged, they are better equipped to serve the students with whom they work. Faculty and staff engagement groups seek to make campus a welcoming and inclusive space.

Our Purpose
The Office of Inclusive Excellence works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to cultivate a campus community that is welcoming and supportive to all. In service of this goal, our primary work includes:
- Leading institutional efforts for inclusive excellence across the university in schools, colleges and divisions;
- Implementing educational events and programs for faculty, staff, and students pertaining to topics of culture, identity, equity, and inclusion;
- Monitoring and analyzing equity and inclusion-related data through the Campus Climate Study and other reports and dashboards;
- Partnering with schools, colleges, and departments to foster a culture of equity and inclusion; and
- Advising the President, Provost, and other university leaders related to inclusive excellence initiatives
