Jean-Pierre Bréhier is a James Beard award nominated chef[1], television personality, cookbook author and a YouTuber. His YouTube channel, where he is known as Chef Jean-Pierre, has over 1.3 million subscribers.[2] and his most popular videos have received several million views.[3] The channel is instructional and teaches how to prepare recipes and use proper techniques. As of 2023 his most popular video is Dicing an Onion by Chef Jean Pierre with over 10 million views. His YouTube has received good reviews for being accessible, child friendly[4] and involves full instructions for all his recipes. His cooking tips have been noted along with other celebrity chefs. Jean-Pierre was born in Aix-en-Provence in the south of France, Jean-Pierre's first job, at the age of 12, was in a local butcher's shop. [7]
At 14 he apprenticed at L'Oustau De Baumaniere in Provence, a three Michelin Star restaurant.[7][8]
His mother is Italian and was a Cordon Bleu chef. His father is French. [9]
Bréhier moved to the United States at the age of 21.
He opened The Left Bank restaurant in 1976 in Fort Lauderdale[10][7].
In 1996 he opened a cooking school[11][12] and in 1997 he sold The Left Bank. [13] [14] Tens of thousands of people attended his cooking school classes which partnered with Holland American cruises as an excursion experience. [15] The school closed due to Covid and the chef restarted his YouTube channel in 2020.
He hosted a PBS nationally broadcast cooking show Sunshine Cuisine which was nominated for the James Beard awards for the Best Culinary Video in the Broadcast media category.[16] [17][18][19] He was a regular guest on The Today Show [20] appearing 28 times. He also appeared on The Food Network numerous times. [21][22][23]
He wrote a number of cookbooks including Cooking 101: The Definitive Interactive Cooking Program which came with five DVDs, Incredible Cuisine with Chef Jean-Pierre Brehier, Sunshine Cuisine.[24] Cooking 101 was Time-Life's best selling cookbook for two years. [25]
