Hi Stombs, and welcome to Wikipedia.

Thankyou for finding the time to sign up and contribute to our little project. If you're in doubt about anything, you might want to check out some of these pages:

It's also a good idea to sign the new user log and add a little about yourself.

When contributing to a talk page, you can sign your name by typing four tildes after your comments, like this: ~~~~. Some people do not pay attention to unsigned comments. An important note: Please do not add this signature to encyclopedia articles you may edit, even if you have created them. Wikipedia articles are owned by the community, not by any one person.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to me at my talk page, or at the Help desk or Village Pump.

But above all, make sure you be bold when contributing, and have fun!

Style

Hi 'Stombs, could I give you a friendly suggestion, that you read the Wikipedia:Manual of Style before making any more contributions. It may mean that many changes won't need to be made to your entries to knock them into Wiki shape.. Cheers. Moriori 08:54, Aug 13, 2004 (UTC)

Greetings again Stombs. Tks for your response on my talk page. Another friendly suggestion (yes, ANOTHER one), when you post to talk pages your contribution goes on the bottom of the page, not the top, (or at the bottom of the subject you are replying to, as I have done here). Anyway, good to see you are now registered user. Look forward to some entries about the area you live in.Go BOP. Ka kite. Moriori 22:05, Aug 15, 2004 (UTC)
Thank you again, Moriori—just got the message from Bishonen as well about stuff going at the bottom. At work today so better not do quite as much during the weekdays! Noho ora mai. Stombs 23:16, Aug 15, 2004 (UTC)

Wanted ad: Stombs

Hey, Stombs, if you're there, could you please leave a message for me on this page, or on my talk page, so I can talk to you? I really hope you don't let all the VfD listings put you off editing, and I feel kind of bad about that BJAODN crack. (Even though actually making it to BJAODN would be quite an honor - they're very selective these days. :-)) Bishonen 22:16, 14 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Hi, Kiwi bloke

Hello, Stombs, very glad to hear from you. Nice to see you bluelinked, too! Actually, I was mostly worried that you'd notice I'd put up yet more of your pages for deletion - Medinge and Medinge Group - don't know if you did or not - and ship out in disgust at all the stalking and nitpicking. I've been checking out your contribs, an amazing list where you can be observed making excellent edits for twelve hours at a stretch or so. At what I thought was an ungodly hour, too :-) (before I figured about New Zealand). It would be a shame if the only feedback you got on all that work was a crapload of deletion boilerplates. Sorry I was so quick to assume you were another Swedish prankster there - it's just that I've been seeing a lot of those lately, back for the autumn term and writing encyclopedic articles about their girlfriends that run "Lhina Hansson is considered by many people to be the best and most beautiful woman in the world, especially by Swedish guitarist Gustav Bjarnason." (What? Well, yes, I suppose it is kind of funny, if you're in the mood for it. :-))

I notice you've done a good deal of copyediting of other people's work, which is a very useful service. See, your edit topic for the Nanjing Massacre caught my eye: "Serious repairs to typos, grammar—does no one check these?" That's just it: yes, someone does. You did. That's how the wiki works. There's no hierarchy of editing, everybody's an editor, and skilled English speakers are jumping in all the time, the way you did, to give articles a shine, especially new articles by non-native speakers. Many of those do need what's referred to as Cleaning up (or in extreme cases, need Tender loving care). There's a Wikipedia section called Cleanup, where people list entries they come across that are or could be valuable for their encyclopedic content, in order to request that somebody else clean them up. Ideally, the somebody would have good English plus some interest in the subject, but editors are encouraged to Be Bold in selecting themselves for this job, as for everything else. Me, for instance, I just cleaned up an "Engrish" article about a little-known manga book, a subject I know less than nothing about. Suicidally bold, you might say. Anyway, if you think you might be interested in doing some work on Cleanup, I think you could do a lot of good deeds there, with your excellent writing skills. I feel pompous saying welcome to Wikipedia - I've only been here a month myself - but welcome anyway, Stombs. (Btw,it can be a little risky to put messages at the top of talk pages - the convention is to put them at the bottom, and that's where people tend to look for them.) Old cars

Thanks for your contribution on the Australian version of the Plymouth Valiant. I'm always interested in learning something new about old cars. RivGuySC 02:30, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Your info about the Monaro/Riviera was new to me and I'll certainly do something with it. Like you, I'd thought the new GTO looked more Buickish. There's nothing there that says Pontiac to me except the grille. RivGuySC 02:06, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

GM Daewoo

Thanks for your contribution to GM Daewoo Motors. Finally this stub is growing. Very much appreciated. Have a nice day. Kokiri 07:54, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thank you

Thanks for telling me about this a couple of months ago, Stombs. I have just signed on. I'm very flattered about what you wrote, too. Jackyan 23:10, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Liter->L

In text, I would leave it as litre or liter, depending on the local usage. So if I was talking about "less than a liter of Ketchup" or "multi-litre engines" I would leave it at that. But if it's a mark notating a metric, like "2.2 L engine" we should use the SI convention of using a space then the short symbol - this was discussed in thy wiki style area somewhere a couple of months ago. What do you think?

Don't worry - I know you mean well and aren't picking on me! We're all here to make this the best it can be! --SFoskett 15:18, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Since you've chosen option #1, please copy and paste the text into your user page, which will add the banner describing your choice. Ram-Man (comment) (talk)[[]] 22:32, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

What licence is Image:19-vc-sle.jpg which you uploaded released under? Somebody in the WWW 10:54, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

There is no such tag as CopyrightFreeUse. I think you must mean fairuse instead. Somebody in the WWW 06:31, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Note to self: I've replied directly to the above user—the tag was not incorrect at the time. Stombs 08:57, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

Holden Zafira in NZ

Tena koe,

I've looked at the Holden NZ website for several years, and have never seen the Zafira featured, although Opel-badged used Japanese imports are on sale locally according to this website. Only this Australian website has any mention of the Holden Zafira. We get a few Opel-badged cars from Ireland in the UK (but as brand new parallel imports). Quiensabe 01:16 UTC 10 Jan 2005

Note: the Zafira was indeed sold as a Holden in New Zealand and many web sites indicate this.

Brazilian Ford Sierras

I've seen several references to Brazilian Ford Sierras, but I doubt seriously that the Sierra was ever sold, let alone produced, in that country. I speak Portuguese and I've seen numerous websites that confirm this. That segment of the market was served by the Del Rey (a local design despite the resemblance to the last Cortina/Taunus) and the Versailles, a clone of the VW Santana.

It seems unlikely that Ford do Brasil would have tooled up for production of a car that it wouldn't have sold locally, not least as everything they would have produced would have been for the local market. The facelifted Sierra was assembled in Venezuela, so maybe that would have been the source for the Merkur.

Quiensabe Jan 10 2005 13:13 UTC

Quiensabe is correct: I meant the Argentinian models.

Where did you get Image:0817tmp3.jpg from? It is obviously not a "Ford New Zealand publicity photograph", as it has a registration plate from Victoria, Australia in the photo. Somebody in the WWW 03:05, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Again responded: source was not incorrect. Stombs 08:59, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

Re: Volkswagen Golf Plus

No problem. As you can see I've moved most of the content formerly under "Variants" to the specific model sections. This makes more sense to me. SamH 10:47, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Opel Manta in UK

The Opel Manta was never badged as a Vauxhall. True, there was a Vauxhall Cavalier coupe and 'Sportshatch', which used the same bodyshells, but those were dropped in 1981, the same year in which Opel dealerships merged with Vauxhall ones. The Manta was the last car to be sold as an Opel in the UK, when it was dropped in 1988. (The Senator was rebadged as a Vauxhall in 1984, but the Monza remained an Opel until it was dropped two years later.)

This site has the history of the Manta, and the Cavalier equivalents. Quiensabe 20 Jan 2005 17:02

Quiensabe is correct—corrected my own info.

Nissan Pulsar/Sunny

Well, I was about to argue with you about the Pulsar/Sunny thing, but then I got confused after some Google searches told me that the B14 and N15 platforms had the same 2535 mm wheelbase and suspension layout (McPherson strut/trailing arm at the front and multilink/beam axle at the rear) as the outgoing B15 Sunny and the current N16 Almera, Sylphy, Sentra and Wingroad. I'm guessing the same underpinnings were retained between generations. Incidentally, one of those searches turned up a New Zealander named ant_marter on the freshalloy.com forum. Was that you? --Pc13 10:34, 29 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Mitsubishi Mirage

I added a fact that Mirage & Colt are sold alongside each other in Australia, and you deleted it saying Mitsubishi ceased selling Mirage's in Australia in 2003. However, if you go to http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com.au you plainly see both Mirage and Colt for sale. This is also confirmed by phoning Mitsubishi Motors Australia.

Maybe in New Zealand it has ceased selling, but not Australia.

And this was added here … why?

GM Daewoo

 • As outlined in WikiProject Automobiles, the home market information is used as the basis in Wikipedia. Stombs 13:50, August 14, 2005 (UTC)

Why did you delete tons of useful information from the original articles (for ex. Chevrolet Nubira) in the process of a copy and paste move, which is NOT how the articles should be moved anyway, and replaced it with information that is simply full of errors? I'm reverting your edits. Please list the pages on WP:RM if you feel there's a need to move them. --DmitryKo 20:28, 14 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Unspecified source for Image:Honda Jazz (1993).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Honda Jazz (1993).jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image:Honda Jazz (1993).jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Honda Jazz (1993).jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add Replaceable fair use disputed, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
 2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Wikiproject Automobiles Notification

Hi Stombs, you were on the list of members at WikiProject Automobiles and we are introducing a new way of listing members, as the old list was becoming too long. Our new method involves having all of our members in a category.

To add yourself to the category just add the userbox to your user page by putting Wiki Auto Project where you want the userbox. Alternatively if you don't like the userbox you can add to your userpage.

If you no longer wish to be a member of the project, simply don't add the userbox or category, there's no pressure. Thanks for your time, James086Talk | Contribs 04:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

With regard to the years, it is Wikipedia policy not to link lone years. I deleted the cookery show for two reasons; 1) How was written (saying he "even" did something doesn't sound very encyclopedic) and 2), its completly unreferenced. I will reword it now, and it would be useful if you reference it. --UpDown 10:10, 28 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading Image:Audi_NSU_range_(1969).jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Unspecified source for Image:Arna_200.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Arna_200.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use.

Thanks for uploading Image:Arna 200.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Thank you for uploading File:1980 Austin Metro Range.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.
