It said the average for the range was 900 - 1200 meters. But the highest point in the whole range is only just over 1200 meters, so the average must be a lot smaller. (I think what was really meant was: the height of the peaks varies from 900 to 1200 meters.) I changed it a little, but I think it's still not quite accurate. Prater 18:23, 16 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Shiwaliks mostly below 1,000 meters

edit

Probably about 600 meters in many areas. Also they extend across Nepal and I think even Sikkim too. Apparently the Shiwalik and Mahabharat ranges disappear in the far eastern Himalaya, where the various himalayan sub-ranges are compressed together.

It's probably important to discuss the Shiwaliks as a sub-range of the Himalaya, along with the higher Mahabharat range to the north, and the Dun or Inner-Terai valleys that often lie between the Shiwalik and Mahabharat ranges.

Photo of Kalimpong

edit

The photo of Kalimpong is out of place. Kalimpong is actually in the higher Mahabharat Range or Lesser Himalaya that is north of the Siwaliks.

I propose to remove this photo. Does anyone have something representative of the Siwaliks to offer? LADave (talk) 19:29, 6 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
